The information that was shared over this network gave birth to a new way for business communications and overall global reach. As the years rolled by, advances in communication technology coincided with business transactions as electronic commerce started to take form. The early 1980s saw the creation of communication networks for computers. Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) was introduced during this time and revolutionized the way information was shared and sourced in business (History of E-Commerce, n.d.). This technology was seen in places like Germany and France where the use of phone lines and national broadcast mediums were used (Fletcher, 2002, p. 104). As an initial Business-to-Business (B2B) concept, this communication network had become very popular among household telephone subscribers and was offered as a free service with a subscription (Fletcher, 2002, p. 104). U.S. based Bell telephone companies tried this videotex technology as well but was…

E-commerce is helping both consumers and companies. Internet business helps the company save money by going online. It also benefits the consumer by allowing them to cut back on gas and other expenses by shopping online. The bigger the company, the bigger the chance that they offer e-commerce as well as a brick and mortar based business. More retailers have begun to view the internet as an opportunity rather than a threat. A consumer can find just about anything online, from groceries to real estate. One of the benefits of e-commerce is that it is quicker, easier and less expensive to start up and begin trade. E-business has opened new doors to companies looking to compete on both a national level and an international level. E-commerce does have its downsides also. Brick and mortar companies are still thriving. One of the negative qualities of e-commerce is that it does not provide the instant gratification that consumers are seeking. The time that it takes for an item to be shipped after ordering online does not satisfy the need to have a product right at their fingertips. Another downside is that shopping among brick and mortar companies allows the consumer to interact with people. The social aspect of shopping is a big part of the reason people shop. The third downside is that online, consumers are less likely to return to a certain site to purchase items again. The…

There are three types of e-commerce categories. The categories are business-to-customer (B2C), business-to-business (B2B), and Consumer-to-consumer (C2C). The Business-to-customer category involves products and serves to individuals. Business-to-business category involves the sales of products between businesses. Consumer-to-consumer category involves the sale of products between consumers (University of Phoenix, 2013). Some forms of electronic payments, also know as electronic data interchanges (EDI) are “electronic funds transfer” which involves electronic transfer of money by a business. Then there are “payment cards” which can be sent from the customers CPU to the sellers. Then there are “credit cards” of course which is when the customer’s credit card is charged by the business. As far as the internet and the sites that I purchase from, using your credit or debit card is the best option when purchasing items from their business. The internet plays a major role in supporting the B2B e-commerce because it allowed for more collaboration among business partners and helped expand to more than $3.2 trillion. With a lot of products and services coming online, businesses will benefit from the e-commerce sells online and business and revenue will increase.
