Yin Yoga
In my search for a yoga class, I found an online video called Yin Yoga that allowed me to observe and participate at my pace. The instructor in the video is Travis Eliot, he happens to teach multiple yoga classes in Santa Monica, California at Studio Power Yoga West. The video was published on February 11, 2015 and runs about one hour and seven minutes long. The yoga class takes place in a vast open floor studio in the evening. The pitch black darkness can be seen shining through the large bay windows that are found at the entrance/exit of the studio. When looking out you see a large tree and the stillness of the branches.
When entering, the first thing you see is the polished hardwood mahogany floors decorated with an array of yoga mat colors that were strategically placed in rows. This allowed the participants to have ample leg and arm space. The orange panel walls that surround the studio until you are met with a giant open wooden cubby that has dividers mounted onto the back wall for participants to place their personal belongs and shoes as they entered and exits the building. The room is filled with ample

Yoga is a system of techniques that can be used for a number of goals, from simply managing stress better, learning to relax, and increasing limberness all the way to becoming more self-aware and acquiring the deepest knowledge of one’s own self. The core of Yoga’s philosophy is that everything is supplied from within the individual. Thus, there is no dependence on an external figure, either in the sense of a person or god figure, or a religious organization.…

Yoga is an exercise practiced for heath and relaxation having to do with breathing control while adopting specific body positions. Some conclusions have been pieced together about the history of yoga since the exact origin is uncertain. The first concrete evidence of yoga’s existence are some stones which have pictures on them of people doing various poses that resemble today’s yoga. These stones are thought to have been used around 3000 B.C. But even though there is not physical evidence of yoga before this, some scholars believe that its origin was before the stones were created. Since Stone Age Shamanism and yoga have similar characteristics, the scholars believe this is when yoga…

I have considered attending a yoga class many times in the past. When given the chance to research the affects of yoga, I decided to engage in the act or art to see the effects first hand. As a child I remember experimenting on the yoga mat with my father, a devoted yoga enthusiast. So this is something I have desired to do for many years. One Christmas or birthday, I cannot recall which my father’s present to me was “YOGA for Beginners” with Patricia Walden, GAIAM – Mind, Body, Health video and instruction booklet By Michael Gliksohn. After searching for a minute I found it at the very bottom of the DVD stand. I really do not know why I never…

The role of a teacher is diverse and multifactorial; Francis and Gould (2009) suggest that the role of a teacher is not simply to be an evaluator but also to be a subject leader, curriculum developer, assessor, verifier and role model. Alternatively I suggest that the role and responsibilities of a teacher whilst multi variant are rooted in equality, diversity, inclusion, reflective learning, evaluation and progress. The role of a yoga teacher is to promote physical, mental and emotional support through postures and breathing techniques which assists students with their personal progression. Individual autonomy is paramount. It is necessary to be aware that the physical ability of a yoga teacher should not be affected by ones ego, the role is not to simply demonstrate advanced postures or techniques but to align with the group’s ability. The role is to collaborate, reflect and see the potential benefits of being a teacher.…

Since the recent legalization of cannabis in SF the class has doubled in size (why wouldn’t it!) It went from 10-15 students, who probably had a medical cannabis card (while it was still low-key) to 25 students each session. There are about 41 meetups you can see on the website from this year alone and about 2,669 members. The prices look 30$ for a class but might change depending on where it is. That is about the normal rate for a yoga class. This class comes with complementary cannabis, that is unlike any other yoga class.…

In Hinduism, there are four main ways to reach towards the divine reality, whether the ultimate goal is a better life, union with the divine, or a release from life. Each yoga puts on its followers a set of actions that help lead the practitioner towards their goal. The yogas are Jnana yoga, Bhakti yoga, Karma yoga, and Raja yoga. For meditative people, there is raja yoga, the path of mental concentration. For rational people, there is jnana yoga, the path of rational inquiry. For naturally active people, there is karma yoga, the path of right action. For emotional people, there is bhakti yoga, the path of devotion.. These are all spiritual approaches to understanding the divine world.…

There were only three different elements in this room. The first elements, probably the most prominent ones, are the canvases. There are fourteen canvases adorning the eight walls of the interior of the Rothko Chapel. Three of the canvases are triptychs placed on three different walls each of them. The remaining of the other five canvases are displayed on the other five walls of the room. The main characteristics of this canvases are their black color and the huge dimensions of them. As for their dimension, they cover most of the walls, leaving only a certain space between them and the edges of the walls. The second elements are the simple wooden benches. There are twelve movable benches in total. They are divided in four groups and aligned in three rows each group. All of the grouped benches are facing towards the middle of the room. Approximately, they can sit between six and eight average size people. The benches design is simple. It consists on a single wide wooden board with no arm or back rests. The third elements are the meditation cushion mats. Although, there are only three meditation cushion mats in this room. One of these meditation cushion mats is placed in the middle of the room and the other two are located at each corner of the North wall. In addition to all of the elements found in this room, the canvases are the only one elements that cannot be used or touched by the…
