XML
XML stands for the Extensible Markup Language.   It is a World Wide Web Consortium (develops specifications, guidelines, software, and tools with the intention of leading the Web to its full potential) -recommended general-purpose markup language.   It is written in plain English instead of proprietary binary code of one’s and zero’s.
XML is said to be the future of the web this is attributable to it’s usefulness in creating special-purpose markup languages, where it is capable of describing many different kinds of data.
XML does not define the look of the web page; it defines the content.   The data in XML is defined in tags (word, letter and angle brackets used to add more information to a document).   This data can than be sent to someone else using XML who is able to decode it and read it.   The program makes sure that the meaning stays in the data until the last person has to view it.   In other words XML used to enable persons/companies to share data across different systems particularly those systems that are connected via the internet   The beauty of the program is that the end user does not see the code, it is a part of the infrastructure that allows programs to modify and validate documents from XML without previous knowledge of their form.  
The benefit of XML other than its large life-span is that it can be read with any operating system, on any computer.
One of XML’s current users is Envera.   Envera is a Business for Business Marketplace Launched by a Global Consortium of Chemical and Petroleum Companies.   Envera makes use of XML for it‘s many global transactions in the electronic-marketplace.   This program enables Envera to connect via the internet with its supply chain, customers and third party services.   This enables the company to reduce the inventory kept on-hand by verifying entries from customer to loading dock; something that EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) gave promise of but Ethyl Corporation saw no result and instead signed up with...
