When our group was randomly assigned, by chance, three of our members were already working closely together on an intense project in another class. Luckily, they had already had positive relationships and myself and the other new member fit right in. The result was a significant kick-start, and we were able to maintain the momentum through to completion. Overall our experience working together as group was a positive one, with great group dynamics, and we were happy to be able to work together again.…

“Perhaps they will be lucky. It may be that events, as they turn out in the next 10 or 20 years, will be common to all the countries; there will be no shocks, no economic developments that affect the different parts of the Euro area asymmetrically. In that case, they’ll get along fine.…
Remember also that your assignment must demonstrate critical thinking, as I have emphasised in each lecture. Question assumptions by considering the negative aspects of post-bureaucratic soft power. Is it desirable in all circumstances? Are there ethical considerations? What about concerns with subtle manipulation and control? You need to grapple with the complexity of the issues – not merely give a one-sided managerialist argument.…

The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program can be a journey of life changing experiences that can and will build character and leadership. I am currently a freshman and I am enrolled in the JROTC program at Boca Ciega High School, and at first I wasn’t sure what to expect and who I would encounter. Throughout my year so far being a cadet, I am being challenged physically, mentally, and emotionally. But I was able to learn more about teamwork and leadership through this short span. The curriculum consists of practical exercises that directly target an individual’s leadership and character. JROTC has taught me what I would not have learned in any other class in high school. Older cadets have overcome fears and have formed lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories. And I do intend on being like my role models in this program. Overall, they have found that JROTC has molded a sense of character within them just it has for me.…
Everyone have their own ways of doing things and different opinions on how things should work. Everyone wants to do the different task and do it their own ways. As a leader trying to work things out with each individual was hard for me, I didn’t know how to responds back to everyone and help their needs met. It was hard to collaborate with everyone ideas because I did not want to upset anyone. But I know that it will work out. I put my best and dedication into this club and I have worked so hard to get everyone involved. Working in a group is so much more than just trying to get tasks done, It staying together by helping one another and encourage one another. What I learned from this experience, it taught me to be a better a person and a dedicated leader. I have improved so much on my leadership skills and what it means to work well with others. I learned be preserving of others by listening to their ideas and opinions. I learned to love others and encourage other students. I grow to accept others who are different than me into my life, helping them, and inspire…
How would my subordinates describe me as a leader? I have never seemed to think as myself as a leader however, since I have been in the INANG my subordinates would describe me as a good mentor and team builder. I like to work close by those underneath me and be ready to jump in and help when there is an issue. I would also be described as a good listener. When I was a senior airman I was asked by a colonel: If I could change something with our leadership, what would it be? In the back of my mind I thought that was his job, but I answered anyway. I told him that there could be better communication with everything from the hangar to the back shops. From that point on, we would see him working his way around more often to keep in touch and gather feedback. Since then, I like to ask my subordinates ideas of how they would do something better. How would my supervisor describe me as a follower? My supervisor would describe me as a follower that does not have to be told what to do. He would also say that if there was a task that was given to me that he would not have to worry about it getting accomplished. What leadership style do I use? The types of leadership style that I use could be described as a coaching style. I like to do the “watch this method” to see if subordinates get it and then help out. I believe this method works majority of the time because if I respect others then typically they expect me. How would I describe myself as an NCO? I would describe myself as a professional airman that upholds to the CORE VALUES of AIR FORCE. My supervisor would describe me as an excellent NCO and mentor dedicated to the military. What are my strengths? My biggest strength is my social skills and working with others. I enjoy working with others rather than being alone. I do not know many strangers. What is my essence? The qualities that make me who I am are excitement, fun, and action.…
According to the essay Herodotus: Xerxes Invades Greece, from The Histories, Herodotus was a very famous historian, who gave his account of the battle of Thermopylae. It is significant though to recognize that Herodotus was Greek and giving an account of what happened when the Persians defeated them. In the text Xerxes has many incidents that portray him as superstitious and tyrannical. Some examples of Xerxes’ tyranny is his plans to “march an army through Europe against Greece,” his want to not rest until he has taken and burnt Athens, wants to extend the Persian territory throughout all of Europe, his beheading of his master- builders, and his lack of mercy towards his slave and his five sons. Xerxes shows his superstitions when he sends for the Magians to tell him why the sun has disappeared, and the day has so quickly tuned to night. Turning to the actions in battle, those of the Spartans tell me that they are a strong willed people who do not give up easily, if at all, even when faced with a great challenge and are outnumbered. Besides this essay showing the Greeks strong will, this essay seems to promote their use of wit and skill in tricking the Persians into thinking there were less of them than there actually was. The account was written by a Greek, so the information in the story would cast them in a more positive light. Lastly, in our text, Western Civilization, there is a thurough evaluation of the significance of the Persian invasions on the Greek political and intellectual…

Throughout global history, nationalism has had many positive and negative effects. Nationalism is a strong feeling of pride in and devotion to ones country. I would say that significant change has been achieved. Group work is one aspect of the university life that I have found interesting and gained good experience from. I have always enjoyed working as part of a group; on the other hand university group work is so much different to college group work. At university you work with a group for a prolonged period rather than for one day and get the work done quickly. As this was our first semester the group work allowed us the change to make friends and get used to university life, so I am really pleased with that front. As with anything in life there are pros and cons. Some negative aspects of group work I have also experienced. With university group work teachers tend to mark…
McDermott (2002) suggests that groups are defined by consisting of at least two persons, that share space and share a purpose. The interactions taking place amongst members may be important in the development of common goals, norms and roles, and some sense of belonging. Within the context of a group, participants find the possibility of making comparisons between themselves and others, which can become an influential source of control and reward for members. Therefore the group work undertaken may play a part in defining the individual's sense of reality. McDermott further concludes that, while groups are extremely powerful phenomena, they also hold the possibility and potential of learning how to share that power. The individual and other group participants interact and create a social experience both in the ‘here and now’ as well as in their own minds with their interpretations of what is happening. The group in the group work module consisted of 4 members, including me and the educator. When I first I had some doubt if it would be possible to see group dynamics developing in such a small group, in reality the group was very dynamic, especially at the last weekend when we had two days followed by each other. The educator worked with us as a class but also modelled at the same time our group work. The group task was the learning outcome as stated in the Module outline and the goal is to cover the content areas. The process focused on how the group developed; when the process is going well then the group is dynamic, which our group was even though we where dealing with a member that for the first half of the module was not as involved in the process than the other three members due to tiredness. As a group participant I learned a lot about myself and how I react being in a group. When meeting new people I am at first shy and introvert until I know the other group members better and have…
In a short essay, a columnist Alina Tugend describes the modern art of multitasking, and all of the pros and cons that come along with it. Although multitasking has been socially acceptable since the 1990s, it has recently been found as a subject for study by many psychologists around the world. Studies are being conducted to test the human brain to see if it can actually perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Multitasking has a positive side as well as a negative side to it. Being productive while working on multiple things at once can be a positive, however texting while driving can be one of the most dangerous actions in our world today.…
