Career Plan: Work Culture Preferences
The Work Culture Preference Activity in the My Career Plan was very interesting with the variety of questions that were asked. I found it difficult at times to answer some because they were things I had never considered before. Once I had finished the activity and received my results, I was surprised by a few things that were stated. It showed I would prefer a work culture where my job was high powered, expert, and supportive. I agree with the expert and supportive because I would like a job in a very specialized industry and I think everyone wants to work in a supportive atmosphere but I have never really desired to be in a high powered position. The results of the Work Culture Preference activity related to the results of my personal competencies from week two because it showed what kind of atmospheres would best suit my strengths. With the information of the two activities I can now go in search for job opportunities that I know I will have the best experience, work environment and self-fulfillment possible. All of the tools the University of Phoenix offers on the Career Services site are also very beneficial to individuals as they are looking for a career. It gives you the ability to make informed decisions on what kind of job you are wanting with the Job Market Research and Job Opportunity tabs. You are able to research the demand, pay rate, needed education/experience based on where you are looking to work and then see what kind of job opportunities there are in that area available at the time. The Resume Builder is amazing as you are able to either upload/import a resume you may already have or create a new resume where it walks you step by step through options and suggested fields to fill in. It also can help you refine your resume to ensure you have the best chance at presenting your skills,

I work in a residential home for Dementia for the elderly, some of the clients Dementia range from mild to severe. The clients are raised in a very different way to how I was raised and it is important that I must remember this and respect their this as we all have personal beliefs and preferences based on our background and upbringing. I have been brought up in a very mixed society but in a church of England school where religious education was compulsory, however we still studied various other religions and were taught to respect all people and there beliefs. Prayers were a daily thing at the end of each assembly and whether or not I wanted to pat attention to the prayer time again I had to respect the people that did. Religion may affect people in many different ways, mainly because we all come from different backgrounds and are taught differently. However, it is important to respect how people honour their religion. I am an atheist however I still make time to talk to my clients about their religion and sometimes have prayer time with them, and when possible I take the clients to church most Sundays, even though my own beliefs it is not some thing that I choose to do as I know it makes the client happy it makes me happy to do this as I know it is some thing that they feel so strongly in and it is amazing at how much I really now look forward to going to church with them. It is part and parcel of the work that I do and part of showing the clients that we care about what makes them happy and respect their beliefs even if ours are different.…

One career goal I have created is to choose which firm I want to work for when I get my degree. Having this in mind will help me create my plan on how to get to the place I ultimately want to be. By knowing where I want to work I can better understand the requirements it takes to get there. The career interest profiler really didn’t help me too much because it came back with careers that I have no interest in being in. The Career Plan Building Activity on Competencies helped me a lot though because it made me realize a lot of things about my personality that I hadn’t taken into consideration before so it helped me focus my strengths in the right places to achieve my career goals.…

By understanding your ideal work culture, it should help with setting up the right work environment to fit your comfort zone if you were the business owner. It can also help you look for a better work environment to work at if you are an employee looking for a job. So essentially, the best environment to help with communication amongst your peers and co-workers should be the environment where you feel most comfortable, and appropriate, in other words, your comfort zone. Your comfort zone should be based on your work culture results, which in my case is a safe place to work comfortable, well-designed work place with all the necessary resources to do high standard work. That way I won’t go around the office asking for things that I would need to do my job which in turn could cause miscommunication in a work environment.…

I agree with this assessment because it aligns almost exactly with the work culture in my current organization. Hello, Amy. Our unit is very diverse. Despite of our differences, we did not have any issues about our cultures. I learn from each encounter that I had with my colleagues, and we work well as a team. Cultural awareness and being respectful to other people is essential in a workplace. In our facility, we have the cultural diversity training annually to increase our awareness and knowledge about other cultures. It is sad to hear nurses treating other nurses differently just because of their ethnicity. Cultural differences are to be embraced. Have a good a day.…

For my cross-cultural assignment I interviewed Wally who is from The Ivory Coast located in West Africa. Wally moved to America when he was 14 years old. He is a soccer coach at the Roswell Rd Recreational Center at the current age of 18, which he has been doing for 2 years now. The typical work day as Wally described is like a party because he is constantly around kids who are full of energy. I asked Wally what encouraged him to do this line of work and his reasons were for the love that he has in soccer which is a big sport in Africa and for the cash that he makes in which he uses for himself and to help support his family. To be a coach you must know the sport in which you are coaching, how to use your players in their best abilities to make the team flow, and how to actually play the sport. Wally likes being a soccer coach because he loves the sport and likes teaching the sport to young players to better their skills. Even though he loves being a soccer coach there are still problems that he must deal with. Some consist of kids being violent and fighting and not playing together as a team but that’s what you get when you are dealing with a younger group of kids. Also the parents can be a pain as well because when their kid does not get in the game they feel as if their child is not getting the attention that they deserve. As Wally explained to me he rotates all players every game to give every kid a chance to get out there and have fun but when the game is close he puts the better players in to have a better chance of winning and also said when the game is out of reach kids get rotated more often. Overall Wally says that the people treat him good they love him being the soccer coach and feel that he does great with the kids. Since Wally was already active in soccer in The Ivory Coast the job he has now is like 2nd nature. Since Wally has been working at the rec. center he feels like he has the…

Within the teamwork centered portion of the work culture results, it showed that I work in a close knit team, have lots of interdependence, and that I am friendly and supportive of colleagues. I agree with this whole heartedly. I try to be an overall helpful person. Anyone who knows me knows that I am all for the team, if there is positivity involved. Within the well-resourced section it stated that I like safe places to work, well-designed and comfortable places to work. As for the career plan I was able to see different positions that may suite me according to the results. Some of the careers I never would imagine doing then on the other hand there are some that I would do. These things include being a lawyer, judge, librarian, curator, archivists, material recording, and scheduling, dispatching and distributing workers. Now some of these careers I did all in one job title when I was a Lead Phlebotomists at a hospital I once worked at.…

Things do not always turn out the way that we plan them. This thing called life will bring struggles, distractions and uncontrollable events. While these are not always bad things, they do take us off of one path and detour us. Well thank God for second and sometimes third chances. I have to say that I was not the typical high school graduate, or maybe I was and I just don’t know it. When I graduated I didn’t have on rose colored glasses and expect everything to just fall in line. I didn’t even know what I wanted to be when I “grew up. I believe if I had access to a system such as the Career Plan Building Activities, I would have been guided in the right direction.…
