Why I Want to Be a Teacher
March 4, 2013

Why I want to be a Teacher Growing up, everyone wonders about what they want to be when they grow up. Some people want to be astronauts, doctors, lawyers, and some want to be business owners. Ever since I was seven years old, I have wanted to be a teacher. Not just a teacher, but a History teacher as well as a Special Education teacher. I told my parents that when I grew up, that’s what I was going to do and no one could tell me any different. Although there are multiple reasons as to why I want to be a teacher, but the main reason is because I want to make a difference. One of the main reasons that I want to be a teacher is because I want to help people. I want to make a difference in the world one student at a time. I think that every student deserves someone to be on their side and to encourage them to succeed. Growing up, I had some teachers that were extremely caring and always there for me. The teachers that pushed me to be the best that I could be were the ones that inspired me to become a teacher. They showed that they really cared about what they did and wanted to make a difference in their students’ lives. Another reason that I want to be a teacher is because I love explaining to people how to do things. For instance, when I was seven, I taught my little brother how to read and how to tie his shoes. We used to play “school” all of the time. I would assign my brother homework and grade his papers. I am not sure what it is but I love teaching people new things. I love seeing their faces when they learn something new. It’s such an amazing feeling. My last main reason as to why I want to be a teacher is because I can’t see myself doing anything else. I have known for 13 years that this is what I am meant to do. While observing in the classrooms that I go into every week, I picture myself actually up there teaching. I just want to get up there and teach already. Being in the classroom has been one of my favorite things since I first started school and now I never want to leave. I know that teaching is what I am meant to do and I know that I will be the best teacher that I can be. I think that every student is unique and deserves to be taught by someone who cares about them. I know that I am that person. In conclusion, I want to be a teacher because I want to make a difference in the world and I believe that it starts with the youth. Everyone deserves a good education and I want to help provide students with that.

I was inspired to teach from a bad experience I had when I was in elementary school. I was in the fourth grade and had a teacher that was very unfair to her students. We never played any learning games or activities. She was very as they say "old-school". She never smiled, never greeted us at the door, and we sat at our desk until it was recess time. It was always come in, sit down and do your work. This inspired me because I did not want to be like her and I wanted to make a change in a child's life, not make him/her feel inadequate. I wanted to teach children that they can have fun while they learned.…

I want to be a teacher for several different reasons. I initially decided teaching was for me when I was in middle school. I had an amazing teacher that helped me through a lot. She made a huge impact on my life, and I knew then that I wanted to be able to do the same for other kids. I later went on to have children of my own, which gave me even more reason to become a teacher. And even with the economy the way it is today, there are actually a lot of opportunities for teaching given the wide variety of jobs a teaching degree can obtain. I also understand the responsibility that comes with teaching and that the job doesn’t end when you leave the classroom. That is why I respect the teaching field as much as I do. I know I still have a long way to go before I get to my teaching career but I feel it will all be worth it when I get there.…
