Why The Uglies And One Of Us Is Lying
Trust. You have to trust your family, friends, others you meet in your lifetime. The Uglies and One of Us is Lying are both books that center around trust. Both books teach you about trust in different ways, in Uglies it teaches you that trusting what others say isn’t always the truth on the other hand, in One of Us is Lying it teaches you that trusting people comes with consequences. In the book “Uglies” it teaches you that trusting what others say isn’t always the truth. This is shown in the text, Tally is talking to David about finding Dr. Cables tablet and finding her notes on how they use the brain lesions to play with a pretties brain. “ All her notes on making pretties and Specials. Not just the physical part” - he pulled her closer- …show more content…
In the text, it talks about how Bronwyn is talking to her new “friend” Nate and they are relieving their secrets to each other, “Yes, I sold drugs while on probation for selling drugs. No, I didn’t dump peanut oil in Simon Kelleher’s cup. You?”(Mcmanus 121) This piece of evidence is showing trust because Nate had to have really trust Bronwyn to tell her about selling drugs and she had to really trust Nate to tell him about cheating on her test. Another piece of evidence that shows trust is in the text, it has to do with Addy talking to Simon Kelleher’s friend, Janae, Janae helped Simon with his secret plan, “One time when we were meeting with Siom, jake recorded us on this phone. I was trying to talk sense into Simon, but the way Jake edited things made it sound like it was practically my idea” it continues to talk about Janae and how she was supposed to plan evidence on Addy in her house the day Janae came over but she couldn’t and plants it at Nate’s house so Addy says “Why?” My voice is tiny, my hands are shaking badly that Simon’s manifesto making a rattling sound. “Why didn’t you stick to the plan?”(Mcmanus 327)This is showing that Addy is trusting that Janaea is telling the truth about Jake being involved with Simon Kelleher’s death and she is believing Janae a person she ain't really friends with. While some may argue that this piece of …show more content…
They are similar because they about teach the readers about trust. In the Uglies, it says in the text, it’s talking about Tally meeting Shay and trusting her as a good friend. “That is cool. I mean, I don’t think I could stand to lose another friend. You know? We don’t have to worry about one of us abandoning the others. Not for a single day.”(Westerfeld 37) This Piece of evidence is showing that Tally thinks that Shay is a good friend to trust and that she would come back if one of them don’t.This also shows that Tally thinks that Shay will stick with her every when they turn pretty which may never happen. In “One of Us is Lying”, in the text, it’s talking about how Addy is trusting that Bronwyn will respond to her and that they have a good friendship. “ I text Brownie in frustration, not expecting an answer since she’s probably in the middle of Chopin or something. I’m surprised when she messages me back right away, and even more surprised at what she writes. Be careful. I don’t trust her.”(Mcmanus 246) This piece of evidence shows that Browny and addy trust each other and that they can have a good friendship. This also shows that Addy thinks that they can be friends if they trust each

In the book The Compound by S.A. Bodeen, there are multiple themes being portrayed by the book. One of the main themes in the book is even if you think you may know someone, you may not. Throughout the book, many parts of the book show this, and talk about trust. Many elements of the book also play off of how well people know each other. The family all trust the father about why they are going into the compound, that there’s enough food and supplies, everyone is truthful, fine in their well being, nobody will cross boundaries while in the compound, and nobody will harm each other. These are all things that they immediately believe and trust the others about. They also think that they know about other characters as well when in reality they don’t. They Think that Lexi is not as emotional and that Gram and Eddy are dead. To contradict what everyone took as granted truth, most of what they believed were lies. They believe lies such as why they are in the compound, there’s enough food, they…

Trust is one of those things that are nice to have, but really is not needed. The statement “It is impossible to go through life without trust” by Graham Greene, may not be entirely correct. Our group disagrees with the statement. There are many times that trust just is not an option. A Streetcar Named Desire and The Crucible are a very good example of how an individual could be lacking trust.…

For example, when Adelaine and her cousin Ronny throw a party using the money that Uncle Josh gave to Adelaine to buy her silence about the abuse, Adelaine wants to tell Ronny about where the money came from but decides not to. Just before Adelaine is about to tell Ronny about the money, she decides that “[she does not] want to tell her after all . . . [because] She had a big mouth, and anything [she] told her [she] might as well stand on a street corner and shout to the world” (293). Even though Adelaine and Ronny are family and have been friends since childhood, Adelaine does not trust Ronny enough to keep her secret about the sexual abuse. Likewise, Adelaine also does not trust her boyfriend Jimmy with her secret. For example, when Jimmy enters Adelaine’s house, he realizes what has been happening between her and her uncle Josh. When Adelaine is about to come down the stairs to see Jimmy, she sees him “sitting at the kitchen table with the present that [she had] meant for Uncle Josh, looking at the note. Without seeing [her], he [closes] the box, neatly [folds] the note, and [walks] out the door” (305). Adelaine never considers telling Jimmy her secret before he finds the gift she has left for Uncle Josh because she cannot bring herself to trust others. The sexual abuse Adelaine experiences in her childhood lead her to not trust others, including those closest to her such as Ronny and Jimmy. As Robinson shows through writing “Queen of the North” in a non-linear way, Adelaine remembers incidences of sexual abuse from her past that are a constant reminder of the disruption of her childhood and of the trust her put in Uncle Josh and he broke. Uncle Josh breaking Adelaine’s trust when she was a child has led her to become less trusting in the present, especially when it comes to her sexual…

Comparison and Contrast of The Lottery and The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas The differences between "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson and "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" by Ursula K. Le Guin seem relatively minor when compared to the striking similarities they contain in setting, symbols, and theme. Each of the stories begin with a description of a beautiful summer day. "The flowers were blooming profusely and the grass was richly green"(para 1) in "The Lottery" is quite comparable to "old moss-grown gardens and under avenues of trees"(para 1) in "...…

Though the stories contrast they have a few similarities, minor similarities. I found it to be interesting that both characters were young and the male/father figure played a role in their story. Sarty’s father Abner was present and included in the plot whereas the narrator of Oates piece was captured by a male who she compared to her father at some points. Together, both exhibited courageous youth regardless of their situations, in one case, the girl was brave not in the since of escaping her abductor but withstanding what she endured. Sarty on the other hand was courageous in his decision to disengage himself from his father choices. Aside from that in contrary, the narrator in “The Girl with the Blackened eye” did not want to betray her abductor because she had grown to trust him. As for Sarty, he did do such, when decided to part from his clan.…
