Why I Write

Back in the day when high schools were safer, students could go to school and get the education that they needed to have in order to succeed in life, and not have to worry about negative impacts from the environment in which they live in like getting shoot, drugs, and peer pressure to drop out of school or skip classes. But now in this day and age high schools remind you of terrifying and dreadful places. You cannot just sit there and get your lesson. You have to deal with the “class clown” immature boys that do not get enough attention at home. Currently graduating to the eleventh grade, I have taken all honors and two A.P. courses in high school. I have witnessed many of these serious problems and I feel that there should be a change. So instead of just stating the problems we should as a community, propose recommendations for addressing them.
We should as a community should try and stop if not prevent high school students from dropping out of school and committing truancy. When students drop out of school they are automatically submitting themselves into a life of hardship. They will not be able to get the high paying jobs or follow the dreams they had in stored for themselves. Instead they will be flipping burgers at a fast food restaurant and barely be able to pay all or not if some of their bills on time. But the students who drop out do have their reasons if not excuses to why they can no longer finish their schooling. They are “bored or dissatisfied with what it offers” (Broder). They feel like “the classes are not interesting, they have missed too many days to catch up, and they would have tried harder if more was expected from them”. (Pytel)
Truancy is another issue in the high schools. Truancy is the “act or condition of being absent without permission” . Truancy itself is a problem and one of the greatest predictors of dropping out from school.
