During the middle of my sophomore year at Norway High School we took the quick 10 minute drive to Kingsford and toured the Dickinson Iron Intermediate School District. There was a plan set in stone for me to see the welding lab. After meeting and learning about all the different opportunities there are after attending this school, we finally got to meet with Mr. Jezylo and Mr. Paulsen. As soon as I entered the shop I instantly felt at home. The humming of the welding machines, the loud crash of metal falling to the floor after being cut, and the sparks flying as students are welding were amazing. I could've spent forever in there learning about welding and what it takes to become a welder, but sadly we had to leave and go back to our homeschool. I couldn't stop thinking about welding and how bad I wanted to learn about it. Everything we learned that day opened my mind to new experiences.…

Additionally, the career path that I have chosen for myself is the path of being a computer hardware engineer. The reason being is that I like work with computers and electrical systems. For me working with computers would be amazing because I could have a part in designing and building computers not just for consumer use but also for the private sectors in the government. Also, I chose this path because it not only provides very well with the median college graduate salary being $75,000. It also is projected to have one million more job openings than graduates to go into this field. This makes it nearly impossible for me not to be employed at any given time. Plus, if I ever became tired of working with computers which I do not see happening it would be easy to switch to an electrical engineering job to work with other things such as cars and airplanes. The reason being is that they both take the same electrical courses in college to obtain their respective degrees. This is a perfect path because I have wanted to do this job for as long as I could remember.…

I want to be a nurse because my life experiences have taught me to have compassion for people. My childhood consisted of being abandoned by my parents, abuse and poverty. My decisions also led me to be a teenage mom and married by the time I was 18. My childhood and my marriage have taught me to fight hard for something you believe in, not to ever give up. I want to carry this compassion over into nursing, to love people that are broken not only in their body, but in their spirit and emotions. I think when you have experienced hurt and pain in your own life it is easier to relate to people who are hurting and need healing.…
