Why did I decide to pursue an MBA?
I'm reminded of a quote by the 35th president of the United States, "Our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our progress in education. The human mind is our fundamental resource." (John F. Kennedy). When I first read this quote, I was reminded of all the sacrifices I have made to insure that my two daughters know the importance of getting a college education and being productive citizens. Now that they are well on their way to achieving their goals, I decided now is the perfect time for me to fulfill my own dreams—of getting my master's and doctorate degrees. I always thought what's the point of going back to school at my age? The answer for me is simple; for personal growth, salary increase that will boost my retirement earnings, acquiring the skills I need to start my own business after retirement, and the friendships and contacts I will make along the way.
Even though I've gained a lot of "real world" experience, my company requires that all employees participate in some form of continuing education. Signing up for the MBA class will not only help my career financially, but also provide the training I need in the fundamentals of creative thinking and problem solving, as well as direction in sharpening my analytical, communication and interpersonal skills, which will give me a head start in preparing to open my own business
Upon completion of the program I hope to have learned how I want to shape my future. I expect to gain a sense of personal satisfaction knowing that I am better equipped to tackle those issues which affects our society as whole. Completing my MBA will mean an opportunity to increase my salary, to have the skills necessary to compete in a global society, advance my career, and to meet and develop a rapport with influential executives and colleagues in the industry.
