Why Characters are so important

A story without characters is like life without humans it would be incomplete. A story needs characters because they are what make the piece of literature like in A Good Man is Hard to Find. In the story A Good Man is Hard to Find the characters play an important part of the story especially the Misfit, June Star, and the Grandmother. These characters played and important role in this story and without them the story would be incomplete.
The word misfit means a person who is poorly adapted to a situation or environment. Which mean the misfit really had no place in life he fit badly, but in the story he was the suspense in the story. The misfit made the story interesting because of the stories about him and the things that he did also the Misfit is an escaped murderer who kills the family at the end of the story and shoots the Grandmother three times in the chest. Described as wearing tan and white shoes, no socks, no shirt, he is an older man with glasses. By his speech, readers can tell that he is rather uneducated. However, he speaks to the grandmother and the others with deliberate politeness. One of the stories about the misfit was he escaped from federal prison and did some terrible things to people. “The Misfit is aloose from the Federal Pen and headed toward Florida and you read here what it says he did to these people” (1, O’Connor). Also the misfit was so smooth and calm when the grandmother found out that he was the Misfit. “Yes’m but it would have been better for all of you, lady if you hadn’t reckernized me” (9, O’Connor).

The grandmother is the central character in the story. The grandmother is a manipulative and self-serving woman who lives in the past. This woman will do whatever it takes to get what she wants and she doesn't let anyone else's feelings stand in her way. She tries to justify her demands by convincing herself and her family that her way is the best way...
