who am i
George Bernard Shaw once said “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” A question such as “who am I?” really helps to distinguish and express who I actually am and who I desire to be. I am not someone who commonly waits till the last second to achieve something. I am a hard worker and I plan for my future along the way with help from my family and friends who guide me in the right direction.
I’ve always been the type of person that never likes to procrastinate. I have always hated putting things off until the last minute and telling myself, “Yeah, yeah, I can always do it tomorrow when I have time.” My brain just doesn’t work that way. If I don’t complete something the day I have been given it, I start stressing out because I feel like I am being sluggish. Once I do have my work completed though I feel accomplished. It also leaves me more time for myself. With me not being a procrastinator, I think this will help me in the future with pursing my goal into being a genetic engineer.
My future goals and accomplishments are an important factor in my life. I don’t want to say “I just graduated college”, I want to be able to say “I graduated college in pursuing my dream of being a genetic engineer.” My hopes and dreams of becoming a genetic engineer and traveling to diverse countries will help me to leave a legacy and a memorable name for myself. Since I started my college career I have changed my mind to becoming a genetic engineer because I have always thought it would be interesting to learn about how DNA works. When I learned about DNA in my biology 121 class last semester it triggered my interest into becoming, a genetic engineer, something I have never thought about before in my life. With my down to earth and responsible personality, I will strive to make this happen.
My family and friends have made me become who I am today. If it wasn’t for my family always nagging me to focus on my school work and not worry about what others

Who am I? That has always been an essential question for as long as I can remember. I never really understood why we had to answer that question along the way, but I’m now a senior at SJPII and I still have no idea who I am. It really bothers me that for 16 years I still haven’t figured out who I am. Constantly going from class to class and making new friends I still can’t pin point who the “real” me is.…

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “To be yourself in a world that is trying to make you something else is a great accomplishment”. A question such as “who am I”? Really gives me the opportunity to differentiate and express who I really am and who I can be. I am not a complex person who thinks the world is against me, nor am I overly sophisticated “know-it-all” who doesn't take time to pay attention to my surroundings. I can't say that I am like every other person because there are certain things that make me a unique individual. What I can say is that I am progressing towards a brighter future.…

My family defines who I am as a person because they are my backbone and the reason why I strive to do my best. My mother’s family has sheltered me ever since I was born they were there for me when I had nobody. Generally I was unwanted by my other side of family, but my mother’s family never neglected me, they have made my life very easy and guided. In my understanding the reason why I said they are my backbone is because as a child( Baby) I had nothing and I was seriously ill but they never abounded me. My grandparents also went far distance into the village to find a cure to my illness and my aunties & uncle used their dorm room bed sheet as a cloth for me. This is why I appreciate everything in my life because I was a nobody as a baby.…

My first reason why family is important to my life is because they have always been there for me. Many of my peers succeed at certain sports or even various classes like English or Calculus. Although, I did struggle with my other activities and curriculum classes, family has always been there. Throughout middle school and high school, I competed with my friend for captain of the soccer team. I didn’t beat him until eighth grade when my hard work finally paid off. Because of this, I now realize how dedication and persistence can help someone achieve one’s goals. If I never decided to join the soccer team and compete for first captain, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to challenge myself and gain the skills and characteristics that would benefit me throughout the rest of my life, if it had not been for my family pushing me to excel.…

“There's nothing wrong with procrastination. Or is there? I'll leave it to you to decide, but only if you have the time.”- Craig Brown. Procrastinating plays a role in someone’s life. It is something that we all as humans try to overcome, but in reality, it is something that will impact us in some way, at any cost. Procrastination is a habit of putting off a task until a later time what could or should have been done at that time. It’s a tormenting weakness I’m struggling with and it’s keeping me back from being successful. It’s like an virus eating up my body infecting various parts of my life.…

Procrastinating makes a huge impact on my life, it stresses me out, and it makes me rush my homework and projects. I am a hopeless procrastinator. I don’t start homework until its due, if at all. That used to be okay when I was in high school. I was able to work, go to school, participate in a plethora of extra-curricular activities, and date, all while maintaining an above 3.0 GPA. It's just a really bad habit that I've never actually taken the time to fix. When I was in high school I loved succeeding, but I never had to really work for it. It just came to me naturally. I've gotten to college and while none of the material is really complicated to me I just don't have the interest for it. I have terrible time management skills. I don’t keep up with important dates and the dates I do remember I put off until the last minute.…

My choice to pursue a career in genetic counseling came about in an unconventional way. I entered my freshman year of college believing that I would become a chemical engineer. This decision was originally based upon my interest in science, my fondness for problem solving, and the hope that I could help others. During my first semester as an undergraduate at the University of Delaware, I realized that my passion for this career was not present, and I felt as if I had made a mistake. I had no doubts about my academic abilities in this field, but did not feel the enthusiasm that I desired in a career path.…

College is difficult, it demands a lot of your time, and attention. Have you ever said the words,” I will do it later”? We are all procrastinators in some way or another; the difference is some people stick to their deadlines (with the proneness to misjudge the amount of time it takes to finish). According to Center for Student Excellence (CSE) advisors many college students find themselves waiting until the last minute to study or complete assignments, and students often find themselves procrastinating due to their newfound independence, a multitude of distractions and a lack of motivation (Patrick, 2014). One explanation for procrastination is that it is a choice. We have a choice to complete a task now instead of later. Another explanation is that it is a way to deal with anxiety, boredom, guilt, frustration and anger. When we procrastinate it can adversely affect our health. In a study done in 2007, researchers found that while at the beginning of the semester students who procrastinated showed less signs of illness and lower levels of stress than non-procrastinators, by the end of the semester, the procrastinators were found to have higher levels of stress and illness…

“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nature 58). Who have you decided to be? Anyone? No one? Most people don 't realize that we have that choice. So, who have you decided to be? When thinking about that, don 't just settle for the least you can be. Think big, dream big, it’s our choice to be who we want, why not do it?…

Over the course of my life there have been many situations where I’ve had to complete a task in a particular amount of time and failed to do so. I constantly tell myself that I’ll do it tomorrow, and yet tomorrow never comes. The next day I tell myself the same thing, and so on and so forth until the time comes where I truly begin to regret my lack of initiative. I begin to realize that had I simply completed the task (in this case class assignments) than I would feel much more secure about my position in my academic life. By putting things off constantly I am not only hurting myself in my school work, but also in my personal life, as stress slowly begins to build up with each passing day that I…

I dislike saying "I am trying to find myself" because my identity is not lost, it just needs more uncovering. Luckily for me, what I love to do and want to be helps me uncover more about myself. I want to be an engineer. I may not end up a professional engineer but I will always work hard in school and continue to do my best in solving problems around me. I get discouraged sometimes when things go the way I don’t want it to go. But I’m a fighter, a true warrior and that for sure I can tell myself each day. That is because there was a time in my life when I thought I’ve lost all my hopes and dreams. When my family and I lost all what we had in a civil war. But that didn’t stop me at all to pursue my dreams. In fact, my worse life experiences have given me the zeal to press on and never fail. Even at that I’m still scared that I won’t see what is essential for me. That’s why I’m holding on to my dreams and whatever…
