What Freedom Means In America
“Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.” Albert Einstein. I think we can learn a lot from this quote.All people are supposed to be treated equally, and have the same rights as everyone else. What freedom means to me is to be able to say,believe,and make our own choices without being judged or harmed.
Ever since we first arrived at America we wanted to be free from someone or something, and when we finally got it more people wanted freedom. Slowly but surely more and more people have become free throughout the years. Knowing that you and your friends and family are free to do and say what they want is one of the best feeling in the world. …show more content…
Thanks to the soldiers and vets recent and in history we have won our freedom from other countries. We can say as individuals and as a group that we are free to be do and believe what we want when we want to.
Everyone no matter how old or young wants to be free weather or not they say it. Everyone wants to be treated the same as everyone else no matter who you are or what they do for a job. We all have dreams and we all want to reach them, and if we did not have the freedom we have today the majority of us could not accomplish our dreams.     Freedom is not something that anybody can be given; Freedom is something that people take and people are as free as they want to be. Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, states, "Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one." Basically, Franklin is saying that in any circumstances mankind should not forget about the most important thing in the world - freedom. Freedom is when people have the opportunity to pursue happiness without any barriers. Freedom "gives" happiness because the state of being free is aligned with our true nature.     In the Declaration of Independence it states that we have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The right to liberty in my opinion is being able to do as one pleases. Not having to ask our parents for permission to go out, or having to have a curfew to get home. Listening and following directions from our parents is not liberty. It is not satisfying, and definitely not doing as one pleases. Liberty is having freedom. Being controlled by our parents is not having self control of ourselves and our lives. We should be allowed to do what we want, whenever we want to. In the Declaration of Independence the right to liberty is any basic right or freedom to which all human beings are entitled and in whose exercise a government may not interfere (including rights to life and liberty as well as freedom of thought and expression and equality before the law) (Free dictionary). We have the right to think and act on our own judgement. Having the right to liberty is the same as having the right to your life. It is your life, therefor we have the power and liberty to do what you want. The word liberty comes from libertarian, in 1789 the meaning to libertarian was one who hold the doctrine of free will. Liberty, with its root in Latin, had its origin in words for "unrestricted," "independence," and "separation." Liberty separated one from the mass of enslaved humanity and made one independent. My meaning to the meaning people used back then in 1789 is similar to the fact that people have the right to their own freedom. They have the power to be free. In a modern dictionary the meaning of the word liberty means freedom from control, interference, obligation, restriction, hampering conditions, etc.; power or right of doing, thinking, speaking, etc., according to choice. I believe the meaning used today to define liberty is freedom from control. It is meaningful today because people do as they please now. They are free in will and do…
