What Are The Factors That Make English 099
Have you ever been pushed to the limit? There are three reasons that made English 099 one of the most interesting class I have ever taken.
The first reasons that made this class interesting were the unbearable challenges. From the very first day, Gina made everyone in class get into a circle and talk about ourselves. This was a challenge for me. I do not like talking about myself because I become nervous and don’t know what to say. Later on, she would say if we don’t do well on both tests, she’ll drop anyone who fails. Consequently, I had to wake up early in the morning just to study which never done before. She also made us communicate with each other as a group; however, this wasn’t haft-bad because I made some new friends in class. The essay

At the beginning of the course we wrote a personal profile, where we introduced ourselves to our classmates and instructor, in it we included some things like the place where we were raised, important influences in our lives, and our dream job. As well, we introduced a topic that we would be interested in structuring and writing an argumentative paper about, I chose the Dakota access pipeline. It was a controversial topic throughout the world and it drew my interest to intellectually challenge the opposing side, along with several other popular debate topics. Unfortunately, I procrastinated throughout the entire course, because writing has never been my strongest suite. I did that because I over thought every single assignment because I was never certain if I was on the right track. Afterwards, we did a “Says Does Analysis” assignment, we had the opportunity to choose an article from the New York Times editorial. We had to determine what the author was trying to do and say, when writing his or her article. Doing this assignment, helped me evaluate my writing more in-depth, and expand upon what I was discussing.…

The first few weeks were focused on learning about each class mate as well as learning about different audiences for different situations. An assignment that was assigned to the class was that everyone needed to get on the internet and research about people that were affected by different horrible situations, such as drugs, alcohol, women that worked “the corner” for money and many other reasons. While looking through the pictures of each person, we were to right a short summary about a person that was interesting. One person that stood out is “Takeesha 3- is a prostitute and is a mother and she is happy with the way things are she says it is what it is” (DeShazo #10) This woman stated that she knew what she had done and was really okay with the way it was. Also, another assignment completely opposite of this assignment was “Fish Cheeks.” This is a story written by Amy Tan about a girl that is Chinese and has a crush on an American boy and is ashamed of her culture. An example is “Because she is the opposite of him and does not know what he will think of her family.” (DeShazo #1 Fish Cheeks) This girl was ashamed of her culture and soon realized after the dinner was over that her mother was trying to make things better for her by cooking…

Mike Rose met many struggling students at UCLA’s Tutorial Center, the Writing Research Project, and the school’s Summer program. He first describes the loneliness students feel upon arriving at college, and that as they try to find themselves, they all to often lose themselves because they are bombarded with ideas that are so foreign to them. He introduces his audiences to Andrea, a bright young girl out of high school who, despite hours of memorizing in her textbook, could not obtain a passing grade on her Chemistry mid-term. How is this possible if she spent so much time studding? Rose explains that she failed because in college, and in this course in particular, it is not enough for a student to know the material, but rather, to be able to apply it in a various amount of problems. Yet the problem Andrea faces is that she was never taught this in high school.…

I found it very interesting that the many of the historical challenges we covered in class are still very prevalent today. Another thing that I found fascinating was her example of how her union organized and won a city-wide strike in 2005. Through their collective effect, the union and workers won a multiple billion dollar fight which is a testament to the power of organized labor. While we have studied many similar events throughout this course, it is fascinating and refreshing to learn about a modern example and hear it from a first person…

Course Description: Guised in an unassuming office building in Van Nuys, California, English 10 is a course that appears to be like every other of its kind. It will attempt to view the valley of classic works of literature from the lens of a blossoming youth by challenging convention, encouraging risk-taking, and exposing the grandeur of literature. Students will nobly attempt to attain the virtuous qualities of the disciplined essayist. They will be challenged to explore critical thought and conquer the restraints of the self. Students will clench an understanding of the English Language Arts Common Core State Standards and master them through self-penned expository, narrative, persuasive, and research-based essays. Furthermore, they will nick and claw up an Everest of grammar and vocabulary to reach a summit of limitless syntactical ability and expression for no other reason than as George Mallory believed that, “It was there.”…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…

Next thing I noticed was the working conditions. Everything was well organized and put together really well. The procedures were clear and it was easy to understand. You could find anything around the class room if asked it was a very simple set up. Also it was a very comfortable learning environment which made the class less stressful during the period. When Mr. Soles asked questions he held a ball to through to one of the students to answer the question I thought that was a very cool and intelligent Idea.…

Megan did not have a bright attitude towards school. She was always not looking forward to studying because she has problem coping in school. Whenever they bring in a new topic, she sighs heavily knowing she would take a long time to understand it even though it is considered an easy topic to the rest of the class. She was always positioned last in class and having a mere fifty-five percent and below for her percentage in exams and tests. Her position in level is one of the bottom few. She did not like being in a school filled with intellegent students.…

I really enjoyed this course, as I knew I would. I love to debate!! I am a very opinionated person and I used to want to be a lawyer when I grew up just because I loved to argue so much (such a pleasure for my parents!). On the course with me were some other girls who had some strong opinions too which was really great because we had some good debates with some strong arguments and points! At the beginning of the course we voted on the topics we wanted for our debates, which meant that we would all be interested in most of the subjects we chose. Being all girls as well you can image some of the “banter” we had! Even though the class started at 9am, it was always easy to come in because of the group that we had in class; I think it makes such a difference when there is good energy in a work area, it makes it a lot more fun to be in. I enjoyed the class time, especially because the format was very relaxed. The lecture would be more of a discussion where we would talk about certain issues and elements relating to the course. It makes the class much more enjoyable and engaging rather than just listening to a teacher go on and on whilst the class sits there texting away on their phones.…

My junior English teacher, Mrs. Doherty, was different compared to other teachers that I had. She was more interested in the process of learning rather than the final result. She would have us go step by step with our drafts, working on them in class for each paragraph. We had peer teaching exercises that allowed everyone to get involved and learn about their essay while aiding each other with their papers. Mrs. Doherty’s class helped me to learn how to accomplice problems at my own pace.…

Before I start the essay, I want to share what I actually think. I was keep thinking that the person which is the most interesting person in my class. Until now, I found no one. Maybe Ms. Malini will think that I am lacking of curiosity on others or lacking of attention on others. I am a student who comes from Miri, Sarawak. The aim of studying here is to improve my personalities. Before I came here, my mum wanted me to study in Curtin University in Miri which she thought that the location of the campus is more convenient for me to back home. I declined her advices and told her that I want to learn to grow up and be more independent in KL. Finally I came here. Not all the things like what I expected. I know life can’t be smooth at all times. Even I had home sick, I had to go through it. The worst thing happened in semester one. We were having an argument with each other because of a GNS project. After that, we had split from a class into two groups. I admit that we all have communication problems but everything had passed. It is hard to explain the situation of our class but there are some problems in the middle.…
