Introduction
Arun Sarin, you were appointed as the CEO on 30 July 2003. Your vision was to make Vodafone the number one in mobile communications and that of making mobile communication the primary means of communication around the world. I will answer your first query in the following manner. I will explain the actions of effective strategic leadership such as strategic direction, organizational controls, resources management, organizational culture and ethical practices. These actions form the foundation for the making of effective decisions as illustrated in figure1. I will explain in detail how you as the CEO have preformed as a leader and whether they will aid Vodafone to remain as the number one mobile phone operator.
Determining Strategic Direction
Determining strategic direction entails specifying the image and character of that Vodafone wishes to develop over time. The ultimate long-term strategic direction has two parts, that of the core philosophy and the envisioned future. The core philosophy motivates employees through the company’s history.
