it was in direct competition with Celebrex, a drug that also helps for arthritis pain.

during the launch the company saw great profit form the drug and within a year from its launch it was the major prescribed drug for Arthritis.

Vioxx was sold in over 80 countries around the world and became common name for arthritis relief

what is Vioxx?

Vioxx was a drug that reduce inflammation and eased the pain of menstrual cycles, and/or pain after dental or surgical procedures. the active ingredient was Rofecoxib. the pill was admisitered orally and the lowest dose was given to each patient.

the side effects of Vioxx
teh side effects of vioxx were many. some required immediate attention when encountered and others would pass on their own.

patients would seek immediate attention if:
they noticed •black, tarry stools
•blurred vision
•decrease in the amount of urine passed
•difficulty breathing
•fainting or passing out
•fast heartbeat
•fatigue, weakness, or sleepiness
•skin rash, hives, redness, blistering, peeling or itching
•stomach tenderness, pain, bleeding, or cramps
•swelling of eyelids, throat, lips, legs, ankles, or feet
•unexplained weight gain or edema
•unusual headache with stiff neck
•severe nausea or vomiting
•yellowing of eyes or skin

ones that didn't
require medical attention were
•constipation or diarrhea
•difficulty swallowing
•dizziness
•gas or heartburn
•minor upset stomach
•nausea or vomiting
