Vampires vs Zombies
Vampires and Zombies

Vampires and Zombies are common in today’s modern world through the use of the media. In this essay, I will be talking about how each of these beings say something about society, how vampires have been portrayed across time and how zombies have been portrayed. By doing this, I will use two references from TV shows.

The Walking Dead is an American horror drama television series, which is based on the comic book series of the same name. It tells the story of a small group of survivors living in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. The plot focuses on the dilemmas the group faces as they struggle to maintain their humanity during the daily challenges of surviving in a hostile world. Which includes battling the zombie packs, coping with victims and dealing with predatory human survivors. While watching an episode, I paid close attention to how the zombies affect the human world. The show began with a chief officer traveling in a deserted town, with cars all over the place and peoples belongings. When he came face to face with a zombie he had no idea what it was. It was a little girl who had bruises all over her body, blood on her clothing, huge bags under her eyes and a messed up mouth with blood leaking from it. She began to walk fast towards him like he was a predator so he shot her. When a gunshot goes off it draws the attention to the zombies where many of them will come together and create a pact. These pacts are dangerous because they are very hungry and they will eat you. Because of the zombie apocalypse people need to find a place and lay low from the zombies by blocking the windows with wood and blinds so the light doesn’t come in. The characters in the show, never stay in one place, they need to keep moving to find new a supply of food and water and potentially a safe place where they could stay for a while. If a zombie bites you you will get a fever where your skin slowly comes off and after a while you will come back as one

George R. R. Martin’s short story about zombies does not focus on the zombie apocalypse as so many stories and movies do in today’s popular zombie culture. In what can only be assumed to be a far distant future, Martin’s zombies are surgically altered humans whose brains have been replaced by a synthetic alternative. This turns these formerly alive humans into form of cheap, or slave, labor that is exploited on planets where most humans are either unwilling, or unable to work (Martin, 2008). Martin’s zombies in this story harken back to the origins of the modern zombie mythos. Those being derived from the African slaves who toiled on the sugar plantations of Hatti (Estes, 2012). I do not think it is any coincidence that Martin’s zombies are…

In the essence of mythical beings known as vampires, we must first recognize the nature of such. If we were to trace the origins of the vampire, we would conclude with a cursed, grotesque human who had risen from his grave to feed on blood. Though the graves appeared normal until uncovered by the local law, the bodies had yet to decompose and fresh blood saturated their lips. Also known as the undead, vampires subsist by draining the blood from other creatures. Immortality is a power possessed by such creatures, with only a few exceptions known to exist. Abnormal strength and speed are also characteristics shared between the characters in the…

Since the eighteen century, vampire stories have played a strong role of popularity in literature and cinematic environments. The continuous changes of vampires have taken the vampire legend from something feared to something desired. Between Dracula and Twilight it has been over a hundred years. These two novels are a great example of vampire’s evolution. However, both novels have elements of narrative device, they are both written from multiple perspectives, and both were turned into a film. Although Twilight and Dracula are pieces of literature that share a vampire story, there are three important differences that characterize each one.…

Although most people dismiss zombies as purely fictional, the possibility that they will happen is still conceivable and luckily the required preparation for the zombocalyspe works across disaster lines. The human race seems to always bounce back and prosper from disease and disasters. However, zombies are not just any plague, they are depicted as an unstoppable epidemic which could cause mass extinction. Imagine a world, in which the dead rose and society crumbled. If created, the mind altering, reanimating, and sacrilegious plague known as zombies can devour loved ones.…

Forget what you remember about your slow, shambling, rotting, flesh-eating corpses, also known as zombies. What used to be bland, boring, and not that scary are now taking the place of the “sparkly love-struck vampire” and the hugely terrifying beast of a werewolf. Thus evolving in pop culture. Zombies, from the standards that we remembered were these slow, staggering and moaning undead that could not run or jump, they could not open doors nor did they have any sense of self-awareness. But through the years these standards have changed and modified and we are left with a whole new line of zombies, many of them very dangerous. In the event of a Zombie Apocalypse one of the first things we would need to know is what type of zombie we are dealing with, your typical slow moving Romero Zombies, the more dangerous, scary, and fast Berserkers, or the “new” Self-Aware Zombie.…

One may freak out if she woke up in the morning being bitten by a random person with blood dripping from his mouth, black teeth, dragging a broken leg, scratching at her with yellowed finger nails. That is one way that could be the start of someone’s life in the event of a zombie apocalypse. Blood, guts, and disfigurement is basically what defines a zombie. Most of today’s generation has seen The Night of the Living Dead, The Walking Dead, Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead, and many more. I personally think that werewolves are stronger than vampires. For example, some movies that show these two monsters are big movies in popularity. Twilight movies do not show the good side of werewolves. I look back at those movies and realized that they gave werewolves weaker powers. For another example, I look back at the Michael Jackson type of werewolves. The type of werewolves that can chop down trees with their arms. The type of werewolves that can dance with a big group of zombies. To be honest, werewolves can go hard. They’re basically ruthless. They keep going and going, and they never quit. Further on, they respect the rest of their families and hunt in packs. They’re also very…

In the year 1897, Bram Stoker releases the crown jewel of the 20th century: his vampire epic Dracula. Ever since Dracula, Transylvania, and castles have been associative of vampirism, the world has become “bloody”. There are slight deviations to the novel, but the majority of them are fairly partial to the novel. Worldly views show Dracula as an old man with a new face. The inception of Bram Stoker’s Dracula has been the melting pot of the recreations and incarnations of the world’s deadliest, blood-sucking vampire, Count Dracula.…
