How the Second World War change the economy of United States? Before the Second World War happened for ten years, the United States had the Great Depression, the most serious economy crisis in U.S history. After the president, Franklin D. Roosevelt and government started big business under strong government pressure, the New Deal project. Of course, New Deal seemed to be successful in the first. By New Deal, many unemployed people gained job, and people started consumption than before. However, economy was still difficult. Finally, in 1937, U.S government abolished New Deal policy. In other words, New Deal was definitely not successful. At this situation, the Second World War broke out.
Western Europe countries required U.S government to export some armaments, ships, and planes. U.S government accepted the requirement and made “Cash-and-Carry” policy. As a result, many capitals flew into the U.S. Moreover, U.S government built a lot of armament factories, and, in some cases, it converted general factory into the factory making machine in need of War. The economy power of the U.S was tremendous. The number of products of armament in the U.S was twice as total number of products in Germany, Italy, and Romania (235, 236 Alan). During the War, the unemployment rate decreased sharply, and even women attended the war or could get a job in the factory. “From 1940 to 1945, the U.S economy expanded rapidly, and the gross national product (GNP) rose, year-by-year, by 15 percent or more (986 John M.)! After the war was over, many people could enjoy their prosperity. In summary, the Second World War became a catalyst to revive the economy of the U.S.
