Introduction:
In my opinion, Windows system is the most prominent operating for regular users while Linux system is the most prominent operating for professional users. The two operating systems compete for user-base in homes, intranet and internet servers, super computer and embedded systems. Thus, Window dominates 90% in the desktop and personal computer market. In contrast, as of November 2007, Linux powered 85% of the world’s most powerful supercomputers, compared to Windows’ 1.2%. In February 2008, Linux powered five of the ten most reliable internet hosting companies, compared to Windows’s two. Since Linux and Windows differ in philosophy, cost, ease of use, versatility, and stability, they bring up the variety for operating system but they also bring up the conflicting of the two systems. The comparison of two schemas will clear the clouds for who are confusing about the weakness and strength of Linux and Windows systems. In this essay, as of the topic I will choose Window XP which represents for Windows’ system and Knoppix Linux Operating System which represents for Unix system.
Operating System:
Every desktop computer uses an operating system. Operating System are computer programs. An operating system is the first piece of software that the computer executes when you turn the machine on. The operating system loads itself into memory and begins managing the resources available on the computer. It then provides those resources to other application that the user wants to execute.
Knoppix is a computer operating system, a control program that works with users to run programs, manage resources, and communicate with other computer systems. Several people can use a Knoppix Linux Operating System computer at the same time; hence it is called a multi-user system. Any of these users can also run multiple programs at the same time; hence it is called multi-tasking.
