Rituals and ceremonies are determined by belief and are defined as a suitable behaviour for the believers of religion. Also they often follow the ethical behaviour of the people living in the community at the time. This means that they differ from place to place, but are followed by all people in the community which makes it a dynamic, living religion.…

Throughout history, places around the world have traditionally participated in a cycle of ritualized events and festivals. Historically, European life consisted of festivals like Carnival and Mardi Gras, along with common, daily rituals like charivari, or riding the stang. Some festivals kept people happy and allowed them to unwind while others provided order and punishment. Different religious beliefs resulted in different opinions on certain festivals and rituals. Additionally, rituals and festivals helped people to temporarily escape social identities and to shame members of society into following both explicit and implicit laws. Although from the 15th century to the 19th century these festivals and rituals could have been seen as a negative aspect of traditional European life, they were also positive and served a specific purpose during that time period.…
One thing that I greatly appreciated, when I was deciding which univeristy to attend, was how well Texas A&M expressed the Aggie Code of Honor. "Aggies do not lie, cheat, or steal or tolerate those who do." A very simple saying, but one that is heard and seen all around campus. It is tied to the university as much as the word "Howdy". It is great that this motto of academic integrity is already stiched to Texas A&M because its easier for professors and the university to promote academic integrity. Professors and the university need to continue to explicitly preach the Aggie Code of Honor throughout the semester as a reminder for students. Also one thing that students are not knowlegeable of are the consequences of acting acadebmically dishonest.…
Culture is how a group of people share the same beliefs and values. Cultures pass on these values and beliefs from generation to generation. “Cultures grow and change very slowly, and have many means of protecting themselves” (Wrench, McCroskey, & Richmond, 2008).…
Commonly, teenagers see an honor code as “just another rule to obey,” (source B), however a few pledges of morality every now and then, help remind students of their responsibilities, making acceptance more common in regards to the code - because it is not being forced upon anyone. The inclination of cheating among students attending Paloma spreads however, the development of positive “community standards,” (source F) made by one person displays the domino effect of ethical behavior. When enforced strategically, the utilization of the honor code halts the normality of cheating, and promotes the ethical study habits made by all. This helps contribute to the success of students going to college, without the threat of…
Seen as a crucial and pivotal element in the process of deepening spiritual understanding, religious ritual plays a fundamental role in building both personal and cultural identity, an act that expresses and emphasises the things that bind a faith community together. In all religions, the milestones of a practitioner’s life are highlighted and celebrated through ritual and ceremony. These events often include both birth and death, marriage and coming of age. Several features play an indispensable role within rituals, such as the presence of representative symbols, people or religious leaders and music, features that have been central to both worship and ritual since primordial…
Every time a student begins a benchmark on campus they must sign an honor code statement, which indicates that in the event of a student is caught cheating, he or she will be penalized. These punishments should not be necessary because at its core the honor code is for the students benefit. Students do not require a document that relays the punishments in order to achieve an honorable environment.…
Studying different culture’s rituals does indicate their beliefs, values, and lifestyles. When comparing the Ancient Egyptians to the Romans, you see cultures whose main purpose revolves around blessing the Gods so they and their families will prosper. However, the gods of Egypt are different than the gods of Rome. Roman gods appear to be superhuman or immortal humans. Both had elaborate tombs wherein the dead are buried with personal items and both believe it helps them into the afterlife. The Egyptians tombs were much more elaborate, but that could be a result of the geographical environments they lived in. And both cultures divided people into upper class, peasants and slaves and the priests of the upper class who managed the political happenings…
Academic honor codes are simply an easy way for lazy people to get through post-secondary institutions. These honor codes discourage students from actually putting in the full effort in their education, which can seep over to their careers. In addition, students see that they really do not need to do all of the work in order to get good grades, and can skate through college, but they are not retaining the education they are paying thousands of dollars for. Honor codes address cheating, plagiarism, fabrication, multiple submissions, misrepresentation, and unfair advantages within colleges and universities. When a student is enrolled into one of these institutions, they are required to pledge to adhere to this honor code. This pledge…
