First of all, playing team sports can teach students to work as a team. You must cooperate with your teammates because you have a common goal of victory. For example, basketball players have to continue passing the ball to their teammates in order to find a chance to get stores. Playing sports lets students put aside personal difference and work as a team. Moreover, athletic activities require students to obey the rules which are also important in a team work. For instance, if you attack your opponents in a soccer game, you must get penalize and your team will have less chance of winning. Therefore, I believe that university athletic department should receive the same amount of funding as university libraries.
In addition, obesity bothers many students because it causes many diseases, such as diabetes. Scientists believe that athletic activities can solve this problem. Many reports showed that one hour jogging can consume more than 400 calories. If you stick to work-out, you will reduce coronary diseases by 80 percent. Moreover, athletic activities can help students to improve their academic success. According to Education Report from Chinese government last year, students who regular take physical exercise, their scores are higher than other students. This is because athletic activities can help students release stresses and let them become more energetic. I strongly agree that university athletic department should receive the same amount of funding as university libraries because it provides students with physical fitness and also mental well-being.
Finally, a good athletic department can boost the university’s reputation and attract more intelligent students to enter. For example, many students want to apply to the universities which have good sport teams because those universities are famous and companies want to sponsor them.
In conclusion, athletic activities can help students to learn collaborate, improve their physical fitness and mental well-being, and make a university more famous. Due to these reasons, I think university athletic department should receive the same amount of money as university libraries.
