Over the past decade, technological innovations have been occurring continuously and in record amounts. These improvements, especially with regard to computers, are opening new doors of information and are leading to more instances of unethical behavior. Temptations have always faced man, but recently computers are becoming a central and common place for these temptations to occur. The benefits of computers and technology have been far outweighed by the negative effects, which have allowed the Christian world to become dishonest and disconnected from God.
Technological innovations have been occurring rapidly in the past decade. Commonly, technology is referred to as an ever-improving and ever-changing industry, where things are becoming bigger and better than they were yesterday. Recent articles have indicated that society is “drunk on technology” and can’t seem to be satisfied with what is already out there (MacQueen, 10). According to the 2003 U.S. Census Bureau report on Computer and Internet Use in the United States, 62 percent of households owned at least one computer and 54.7 percent had internet access. Additionally, CTIA – The Wireless Association reported that “in the first 6 months of 2006, the wireless industry added approximately 63,000 subscribers per day” (100 Wireless Facts, # 17). Improvements in technology have appealed to the eyes of man and have resulted in numerous benefits, but have also resulted in new opportunities for unethical behavior.
Whether at the office or at home, a result of technological innovations is that computers have become an imperative part of everyday life. Practically everywhere you go, you will find a computer and a prime opportunity for unethical behavior to occur. Unethical behavior has been a part of society since the creation of man; however, until the introduction of the computer and internet, unethical behavior was difficult to get away with and wasn’t heard of as much as it is today.
