Democratic Republic Of The Congo: Garamba National Park
Garamba National Park is one of most famous National Parks in Africa as well as being one of the oldest. The park offers an opportunity to live the wilderness experiences of Africa. It has s vast opening and grasslands set the scene with herds of Uganda Kobs, elephants and Buffaloes. You will also at times see the Roan Antelope and the giraffe which are less common species. The Garamba is located in the district of Haut-Ue’le’in the North-Eastern corner of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is joined with the Sudan’s Lantoto National Park and is at the Sudanese Border. The Garamba complex to include the domains de chasse is 12,427 km2. In 1980 the park was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Garamba is on the World Heritage Danger list and has been since 1996 because of the threat that is posed to the remaining rhino. It is the one remaining habitat that critically endangered the Northern White Rhino (Ceratotherium simum cottoni).
The Garamba slopes southwest and is between the Congo Rivers and the Nile it has long grass and bush savanna, which is shaped by fire. The Climate is tropical it is semi-moist rainy season. The temperatures from March through November are between 20 degrees and 30 degrees Celsius. From November to March a dry period sets in and the temperatures range from 6 degrees Celsius to 39 degrees Celsius, during that time it is very hot, dry and the north winds are common. The average annual rainfall is 1260 millimeter (mm). The position of the park covers three biomes, the main species of the savanna are Loudetia arundinacea and hyparrhenia species, that grows in September. It grows over 2 meters high. The tallest grass Urelytrum giganteum grows up to 5 meters.
