Understanding Leadership Styles

According to Yuki (2006) leadership is a subject that has long, excited interest among people. This term consists connotes images of powerful, dynamic individuals who command victorious armies, diet corporate empires, or shape the course of nations. The exploits of brave and clever leaders are the essence of many legends and myths. Most definitions of leadership reflect the assumption that it involves a process whereby intentional influence is exerted by one person over other people to guide, structure, and facilitate activities and relationships in a group or organization. I believe that the capability to lead is acknowledged by various individuals to be a major trait for the success of business professionals today.
One year from today the Montgomery County, Ohio Probate Court will start the process of expanding and restructuring the court to promote the importance of understanding leadership styles. With that being said, I have been selected to fill a leadership position that best fits my style. Being a leader is not something that everyone is capable of doing. There are a great deal of things to take into consideration before going into a leadership position. Determining a leadership style is one of the most important factors. I was able to define my leadership style by taking an assessment titled, “What’s My Leadership Style”? This assessment explained my level of concern towards people as well as tasks. After taking the assessment, I discovered that my concern level was highest toward the concern of people and not tasks. This categorized me as having a people oriented leadership style.
