Total Quality (TQ) Model and Methodologies
The key elements of quality are: employee, process and the customer. In order to obtain total quality, high level focus must be placed on these key elements. The business will benefit greatly by doing an in-depth analysis and by re-evaluating the company’s position on delivering quality services to its customers. It is imperative that the customers are central to all activities; therefore, quality must be incorporated in every function of the businesses efforts. This paper will discuss the Six Sigma methodology. Six Sigma is a quality process with an objective of achieving as close to perfection a business can obtain. The process employs a measurement based strategy with a primary focus on improving processes while simultaneously reducing and controlling variation.
Six Sigma Methodologies
The Six Sigma methodology consists of two sub methodologies which are: DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve and control) and DMADV (define, measure, analyze, design and verify). (Six Sigma 2009) DMAIC is used to improve and or modify existing processes over time that fail to meet objectives and expectations of customers. DMADV is used to create new processes and or products that meet Six Sigma levels of quality. (Six Sigma 2009) DMADV should be used if a product or service does not exit in a business and a product or service is vital for the business to operate effectively by satisfying the needs of the businesses customers. DMADV should also be used if a product or service exists in a business, however, the product or service fails to meet customer needs or the product or service fails to meet the Six Sigma benchmark for quality.
