Tipping Point

The business world is very unforgiving. Many entrepreneurs take a dive into the business world and hit rock bottom, while a few actually make it big. Some people think of it as a game of chance, and others think of it as a well organized path of networks. Malcolm Gladwell’s book, The Tipping Point, can help the common man understand how little things can make a big difference, and exactly how businesses grow so rapidly. It is these epidemic trends that The Tipping Point dwells around, and how a keen understanding of these trends can bring one’s satisfaction and success in life to a new level. Gladwell breaks social epidemics down into three categories of people in his work. They are called mavens, connectors, and salesmen. Mavens are the kind of people who know everything about everything materially. They love to give advice and help people understand good from bad. Connectors are the kind of people who know everyone, so to speak. They remember people’s names and faces automatically and have a huge network of contacts to connect you with. Salesmen are the most influential people in making important life decisions. They usually know the best choice and will do their best to convince you to make it. Mavens, connectors, and salesmen as Gladwell’s most influential people in life can also help me as to be successful if I were to be an entrepreneur.
Mavens are knowledgeable people. While most consumers wouldn't know if a product were priced above the market rate by, say, 10 percent, mavens would. Someone who detects false claims in the media could also be considered mavens. A maven is an expert in a particular field, usually one who is self-appointed and who seeks to pass his knowledge on to others. A maven can definitely help entrepreneurs gain knowledge about a particular product and exactly how to market it.
