Thoughts without language
Language is define as a systematic means of communicating ideas or feelings by the use of conventionalized signs, sounds, gestures, or marks having understood meaning. Language is also defined as communication by word of mouth and it helps the brain function.
Language plays a major role in critical thinking. For instance, in order to complete this assignment I had to make use of language. My thoughts of how I was going to write this paper came from the use of language and if language was not used and I would not be able to understand or complete this assignment.
Language is our surroundings and all aspects of what we think. Without language people in the world could not distinguish right from wrong. Language is what uplifts our thoughts and empowers our mind. Language structure is what helps direct our thinking. For example: My son Tijuan is doing a great job learning how to write his name. Structuring language allowed me to distinguish when to use “write” instead of “right”. Another example instead of saying orange, structuring language will make you be more specific. Instead of saying orange you may say “orange fruit”, or “orange crayon”.
We could not think if we did not make use of language. Language is used to read, write, speak, think, etc and it arranges what we perceive. Although language enrich what we perceive it can also be a challenge. We as humans are born to various ethnic backgrounds. Diversity reflects differential languages spoken and diverse viewpoints. We all have our own parents and each individual speaks a type of language. Some people may speak English, Spanish, French etc. I grew up wondering why we had to speak different languages, knowing that we are born to various different ethnic backgrounds and traditions, however never understood why different languages.
