Is There Any Possibility Of Fair Trade For The World?

IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITY OF FAIR TRADE FOR THE WORLD?
I. Introduction
Beside the discourse of the free trade that are offered for the system of international trade, there are arising of another alternative of trade. It is called fair trade. Fair trade is pursued in order to gain a justice in trade. The affirmative of fair trade see that the (international) trade system cause “the fair” question for the other side that do not get the benefits from the trade system. As we know, the international trade system right now is based on the “comparative advantage theory”, which the benefits come from specializations; the larger markets will enhance the gains from economies of scale; and the more competition will makes a production more efficient. The problem is all the benefits that are promised by the “comparative advantage” theory, only come to the powerful nations/groups/individuals. The capitalism that are embedded in international trading system makes the rich get rich, and the poor get poor. Right now, there are a huge gap between rich and poor people and nations. The United Nations estimates that a person needs at least four dollar a day, about $1500 a year, to live a basic, decent life. By this measure, of the 6.5 billion people in the world today, four billion people do not live a decent life. This condition –poverty and marginalizations- is assumed caused by the free trade (the form of the international trade right now). Thus, fair trade is hoped to be one solutions to poverty and marginalizations, that can address some of the problem in what is now commonly we called the Global North, the set of industrialized countries that have relatively robust economies and stable government.
II. The Term of Fairness
