That Was Then, This Is Now

The story called That Was Then, This Is Now was very interesting for me. The most important characters of this story are Bryon, Mark, Charlie, M&M, and Cathy. In this story Bryon is the narrator, Cathy is Bryon's girlfriend, Charlie is the owner of a bar, and M&M is Cathy's brother. At the beginning of this story Mark was Bryon's best buddy, and he loved him like a brother and at the end of the story Bryon said that he didn't care about Mark anymore. Mark's parents killed each other in a fight that they had. Since that happened Mark had lived in Bryon's house. Bryon's mother loved Mark like a son. When Mark and Bryon were younger they were always in fights, and playing poker. Both of them had a very good relationship, but then they began to grow apart. Early in the story, Bryon only cares about himself, but later Bryon realizes that he cares about everything. Bryon began dating Cathy and he had less time to spend with Mark. Mark was a little bit jealous of Cathy. One day Mark and Bryon went to Charlie's bar to get some money because Bryon needed to take Cathy out on a date, and the men they hustled caught on them. Charlie supposed that they were in trouble and he went to help them, but the man killed him. Later, when Cathy's brother, M&M run away, Mark found him in a hippie community under the influence of the drugs.   Cathy and Bryon were able to take M&M to the hospital. Then, Bryon goes home, and he wanted a cigarette, but he didn't have any and he decided to look in Marks stuff and he found out that Mark had drugs, and he decided to turn Mark in.   Bryon's mother tells him that he did the right thing. Everything changed at the end of this story, Mark is in jail, Cathy left Bryon, Charlie is death, and M&M tells Bryon about the effects that the drugs had on him. Bryon wonders about how things could be different if he didn't turned Mark to the police. When Bryon goes to visit Mark to jail, Bryon tells him: "We were like brothers" "You...
