Learning and speaking the truth are not always the easiest things to accept. In The Crucible accepting the truth is one of the main issues that occur throughout the play. Though everybody now knows that most or all depending on what the reader wants to believe were not witches, and consequently died for something they never did. Many characters lie throughout the play for their own reasons some to due with land while the others for more personal reasons. The death of many were caused by the others failing to accept the truth.
Rebecca Nurse though she was not the main character she dealt a very big part within the play.

His wife was accused of witchery in the play for attempt of murder of Abigail Williams. Abigail had lied about John’s wife in order to try and get closer to him, John detested Abigail for this and tried everything to save his wife. He even told his secret, but in the end his wife lied about what he had done in order to try and save him. In the end he was accused of being a witch and had to confess, he went to confess, but didn’t in order to say his name. Abigail Williams may be seen as the agitator of the afflicted girls, all the girls followed her lead when it comes to faking. Abigail had lied countless times throughout the play one of the biggest being the one that dealt with Elizabeth Proctor. Abigail had threatened the girls at the beginning to lie in order to try and save herself from being accused “ let either of you breath a word… I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and bring a pointy reckoning”(1268) . The characters gradually started dawning on the fact that she may be lying and end the end she found out caught too
