HSC 025: The role of the health and social care worker.

1.1 A personal relationship can come under three categories, family, sexual and friendships. A working relationship is different from a personal relationship.

A family relationship is a relationship that you would have with parents, grandparents, siblings and children. Depending on the type of family they can be close or distant. Family is one where you get most of your influences from and as you grow up they play a large role in the type of people we become.

Sexual relationships can be long or short term and can be permanent or non permanent with the same or opposite sex. The physical closeness of a sexual relationship means that the dynamics involved are different from a family relationship however it is also much more intense than the demands of a friendship. Sexual partners are often close emotionally in an intimate physical relationship.

Friendships can be long or short term and can also be quite intense. Some people have a few close friends that they share most of there intimate details with for example a close friend will be the first port of contact to share good news with and at a difficult time someone you would call on for a bit of friendly advice and support. On the other hand the larger circle of friends may not be as intimate or close enough to share personal details with.

Working relationships are contractual relationships that are held between colleagues and employers. Working relationships are formal and not personal. Some work relationships can lead into friendship but for most people their colleagues that they work with are related in a different way to how they relate to their friends.

By reading the paragraphs above it is clear that a working relationship is different from a person one as a personal relationship is often built upon mutual experiences, shared interests, proximity and emotional bonding, there are also no restrictions in what you can say or
