The Outsiders Summary Chapters 1-4
Summary In The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, Ponyboy and Johnny kills a teenager by stabbing him in the back and are forced to run away from the police to an abandoned church. This all starts in Chapter 1 when Socs jump Ponyboy when he comes back from the movie theater. They cut and bruise him up a lot, but before they can do serious damage, the gang of Greasers that he belongs to come running just in time to help Ponyboy. Soda gets worried when he sees the injuries, but Darry yells at Ponyboy, causing Ponyboy to think that Darry doesn’t love him even though he is his youngest brother. In the next chapter, Dally take Johnny and Ponyboy to the movies and they meet two girls. Johnny and Ponyboy become friends with them. They talk to each other about their troubles, the Socs’ and Greasers’ troubles, and get to know each other. Ponyboy finds out that the Socs’ world isn’t that different from the greaser’s world. After the movies, Two-Bit, Ponyboy, and Johnny offer to walk Cherry and Marcia home in Chapter 3 and they accept. Then their boyfriends see them and take Cherry and Marcia home in their Mustangs, but not without some confrontation. Darry gets angry at Ponyboy for coming home late and hits him. Ponyboy runs away with Johnny to the park. In Chapter 4, Socs ambush Ponyboy and Johnny at the park. Bob tries to drown Ponyboy in the fountain but Johnny kills Bob, fearing that Ponyboy would drown.
