The Night That Changed My Life
The Night that Changed my Life Will they like me? Will I like them? Are they going to like my personality? These are the thoughts that run through my mind as I anxiously await meeting new people. Whether you are at school, a new job, or socializing at a party, meeting new people can be a very nerve racking. Being able to walk up to a group of people and introduce yourself requires confidence and maturity. Although I believe I do posses these qualities, I still get butterflies in my stomach when I have to face that intimidating social situation. When I was a junior in high school, i had to make a decision that would ultimately change my life. I can remember the day so clearly. I was sixteen years old and my Friday started out as usual. I woke up, got dressed and headed off to school. It was March twenty-sixth, my friend Tori’s seventeenth birthday. After wishing Tori a happy birthday at the lockers, I was invited to a party that night at “college boy’s” house. I had some reservations. Most everyone would be older than me. I would know hardly anyone. I did not even know whose house the party was in. Still, I was extremely excited and felt really cool that I was attending a “college party.” So I told the butterflies flying around in stomach to take a rest. After school I rushed home so I could make it to my doctor’s appointment on time. Once I got back home from the doctor, I began the long process of getting ready for the party. Showering, choosing clothes, doing my hair, applying make up and making cupcakes for the birthday girl. Not being so savvy with fashion, I struggled to choose the most “mature” outfit that I could find in my closet, just to attempt to fit in with the older crowd. When I finished decorating the cupcakes and doing my hair, I packed a small bag so I would be able to sleep over at Tori’s house later on that night. My mom and I got into the car and my mom proceeded to drive me to the party. On the way she made a sharp

Most, if not all, people have to make an important decision at some point during their lives. Some of these decisions have the capacity to change the course of a person’s life either for the better or the worse. One of the most important decisions I have ever made up to this point in my life was to decide whether or not I should study abroad for an entire year. Some of the many reasons that made this decision such an important and difficult decision to make were because; I was only 11 years old, the implications that came with living away from my family, and the once in a life time opportunity I was faced with.…

OK so basically I have decided to tell you about me being a troubled teen. Everybody I am sure has either had some kind of trouble as a teen or been in some kind of trouble as a teen. Well some has been worse than others right. Well mine started off when I was 14. I thought I could do what I wanted to do when I wanted to do it and knew everything. Needless to say it didn’t happen that way. When I was 14 I got into a lot of trouble. I didn’t listen to my mom, I would sneak out the house, and I got into a lot of trouble with the police for fighting a lot, and always skipped school. I never hung out with people that did anything good. The people I hung out with where negative. Well one day I went to school and got into a really bad fight and ended up in a juvenile facility over it. I was there for about a month went to court and the judge put me on probation for 3 years. Well I still thought I could do what I wanted to do. So I still kept doing the same behavior I was doing before then. Needless to say I ended up violating probation when I was 15 and they locked me up. I was in a juvenile facility for 3 months then went to court and they put me in a program for 1 year. Well when I got to the program I thought it was going to be easy. But I ended up finding it was actually very difficult. Well after I got out of my program I decided that was something I had never wanted to experience again. So still to this day, and am 21 now, I have not been back in jail or nothing. I have been abiding by the laws and actually I am doing really well for myself. But…

I remember getting up in the morning, starting breakfast and turning on the TV just as I had on many other normal mornings. I was having Raison Bran for breakfast and looking for something interesting on TV to watch. All the stations were covering the same thing. The date, 09/11/2001. Things would never be normal again.…

Our plan was to drive through Nevada and into Utah. We stayed the night at the Beehive Inn. It was the only hotel close to us and there was only one room available because the Udells cancelled, so we were the Udells for the night. The room turned out to be a honeymoon room and it had only one bed a well , but this was more awkward than the night before. In the morning we started for Colorado Springs. Once we got there instead of buying a room we were able to stay at one of the sorority houses at Roger’s college. His friend Bronwyn let us stay there. There was a party at one of the other houses close by and so she let me borrow her clothes since I had nothing fancy. Her style was how mine once was: It was full of cute shirts, the ones that were super soft and cute. I hadn't dressed nice since “it” happened. The party was fun, but I had left early. The next morning my suitcase was already downstairs, but Bron left me one of her outfits to wear. We were on our way and there was a note with my suitcase she had taken most of my clothes and replaced them with hers. I was a bit mad, but later on I knew I would thank her. We headed towards Kansas…

I am only now beginning to enter my sophomore year at college but there has always one part of it that has been especially exciting, the parties. Yes, those glorious nights where you can escape from the nagging of your parents, procrastinate on some of that homework, or maybe even meet someone special. Any average college student could tell you that the craziest parties always happen on Thirsty Thursdays. Once that day of the week comes around students start to forget the stresses of their week and go out to try and have some fun, sometimes too much fun. Many great memories are made at parties, some are good others seem to be the worst times of your life. But what drives a college student to party so hard? Is it s lack of confidence, a desire to fit in, just to let loose, or one of the other many possibilities? In this essay I reflect upon a few of the many parties I attended this past semester and studied the party goers so i could perhaps understand the drive to get so out of hand. During the course of composing my field notes, which I have blended into my essay, I gathered experiences as both an insider and an outsider to the environment to search for the answer to some of my questions.…

Three years ago we stepped into high school believing that we owned the place. No longer the lowly freshman, who when we look back now were completely weird. It’s safe to say we all thought we were much cooler, but who knows. We were nothing but individuals searching for themselves, looking to fit in, wanting to achieve something. We followed our daily routines, got our licenses, expanded our circle of friends, and talked about parties. Three years ago we made a new best friend, went out with our friends every weekend, thought we were too mature for school dances. Three years ago we couldn't wait to get older.…

It started with my second child’s birthday, Olivia. In middle of April, when spring weather is fabulous and the flowers are blooming and birds singing, Crystal was over at my house planning Olivia’s first birthday party. We took a few weeks off from planning her wedding so that we could focus on the birthday party, I was going to be the maid of honor so I was the one helping her do everything, so she was the one helping me for my daughter’s party. We had the windows up, enjoying the fresh air, and listening to music, and my oldest son, Trevor, and Olivia playing in the back bedroom. We were in the floor with every shade of pink paper you could imagine, cutting pretty scalloped circles out for the “Minnie Mouse” themed party décor. The party was only a week away, and I was getting very excited as was Crystal because she and Olivia share a birthday. I know that is just awesome, my best friend and my daughter share the same birthday! We still had a lot to do, but Crystal was over at my house every day helping me finish the preparations for the party, so we were both working just as hard on it. Well only 2 days before the party Crystal met me at Wal-Mart, on a Thursday when it wasn’t going to be so busy, so that we would have plenty of time to really make sure we got all of the groceries for the party. So we got all of the food, and I…

From as long as I knew my legal abilities, I could never wait until the day I finally turned eighteen. I couldn’t possibly fathom how I would fit all of the things I wanted to do in one day. I could play the lottery. I could go buy some cigarettes. I could go to a strip club. I could smoke cigarettes at the strip club while I played the lottery. I could even get a tattoo, which was definitely something I always wanted to do. When I realized my birthday, once again, fell on a day of finals, I couldn’t be more excited considering I knew that I would only have a half day of school. But even better, being a senior, I was privileged enough to be exempt from my finals that day. But even better than that, my birthday fell on Friday, meaning I would have all night and then some to have the best birthday of my life.…
