The Most Memorable Day of my Life
The most memorable day of my life was, September 4, 1995 in Chicago, IL. It was 6:00 a.m. when my alarm clock woke me up. The first day of high school was finally here. I was excited, but a lot more nervous. I got out of bed, got ready, and then was on my way to the bus stop. All I could think of is the stories I heard about high school being so horrible with all the mean teachers, the hard tests, and of course being a freshman does not help either. The bus ride to the school was only 30 minutes, but it seemed a lot longer. When we finally got there, I was more nervous than ever. The day ahead of me was about to get a lot more complicated or the start of something great.

I did not know how to get to my classroom. I was lost and I had to ask one of the students about the room number where I was going to take a math class. This individuals name was Kim. She was a white girl, about 5'6, with wavy hair, wore a blue dress and flip-flops. She acted like a normal kind of person. She was very nice and told me the right direction. When I walked into the class, I saw a number of students and at that moment, I felt odd. I became close to a girl who was from the same neighborhood I was. I asked her what classroom she was going to and found that we were in the same room number and I felt less worried. I introduced myself and said, "Hello my name is Gisela Lopez and I am new to this school," and she introduced herself to me. She said, "Hello, my name is Asia and I am also new this school." She was light skinned, about 5, 4. Asia wore a Muslim dress that was called an abaya, a head cover and high heels; she acted happy when she saw me because she was the only person that was there from my neighborhood so I thought. We went into the classroom, and the time to start class began.
While we began our class, all of our classmates were quiet nobody talked. After ten minutes,

I dreaded the alarm that woke me up at 6:30 in the morning. It was as loud as a screaming toddler that could be heard for miles. I groggily got out of bed and got ready for my first day of school. It was a weird feeling not putting on a uniform like I had been for the past nine years, but I also enjoyed that freedom. The nervousness became more and more intense as I could closer and closer to campus. When we arrived, I got out of the car, and watched my dad drive off to go take my younger sister to school. There was no going back now; I had no other choice than to walk through those doors. I felt like my throat was in my stomach. I noticed some familiar faces, and I walked towards them. While I was approaching my friends, a senior, facing toward me, walked passed. He must have been at least six feet tall, which was incredibly intimidating for me at just over five feet. I was not used to the fact that I’d potentially have classes with these giants. Additionally, the array of new teachers, and having to learn all of their teaching styles and things they did or did not tolerate was hard in…

My most memorable memory included eggs, confetti, and confusion. This day had many odd occurrences, from window paint, eggs, flour, camouflage, and a roller coaster of emotions. The best memory ever to me was the last day of my senior year of high school. That day started off as any normal last day of high school. There were camera flashes, k.i.t (keep.in.touch) in yearbooks, smiles, yearbooks flying around the cafeteria, and saying goodbye to teachers. As the day progressed, it was good being able to hang out with my whole class before walking the stage.…

I got to school that Monday morning and met up with my friends by the stairs, our usual meeting spot. We all shared jokes and had stories to tell about the things we did over the weekend. After that was over, my friends were on their way to class but before that, one for them fell sick and we all went to look after him. “Are you okay Jay? What’s wrong?” we all asked, standing in front of the school’s main building, in a little circle trying to make sure my friend was okay. All of sudden I felt someone behind walk very quietly passed me, and towards the main building, and as I looked up, I saw this girl that caught my eye ever since the semester started, but the strange thing was that I had no idea what her face looked like, because every time I saw her, I was behind her. The first thing I noticed about this girl was her hair. She had some long braids that looked like dread locks and it went all the way to her back. I always had it at the back of my mind that I was going to talk to her someday.…

Now that my parents had begun working it was time for me to begin my junior year in high school. I will never forget my first day of school, December 31.2001 when I attended Lawrence High School. The school had me take a placement test and the results showed that I would have to take an ESL (English as a second language) class. All those English lessons that I took back in Brazil had been a waste of my time. My advisor gave me a schedule with the list of courses I had to attend which the list itself seemed like a course I had to take in order to understand it all. My English wasn't sufficient enough to ask for assistance. No one talked to me that day. I felt left out because of my inability to communicate. Some students assumed that I did not understand them at all so, they made rude remarks about me. I understood them maybe not completely, but I knew the intent of their messages. That day I ate lunch by myself, in the bathroom, and I stayed there until my lunch period was over. I was without a friend in the world, like I was an alien who had just landed on planet Earth. That day really hit me on how much I missed Brazil. I thought to myself, 'I should be at home, with my friends talking and laughing.' As soon as I arrive home I went to bed and cried myself to sleep. The thought of going back to school the following day brought shivers down my spine. I didn't want to see tomorrow because I did not want to go back to…

Throughout high school, I had many great memories. From sports to girls to all the partying, I just wanted to know what everything was like. I cannot believe that it has come this fast. From being an inexperienced sophomore to a somewhat mature senior, things have really changed for me. Some say that "high school was the best time of my life", just like others say that high school was the worst time in their lives. I was just dying to experience all the new and exciting things that awaited me. I've had plenty of good times, as well as just as many bad times, in high school. And the most important thing is that, not just that I learned through the books, but I learned about life and the road ahead of me. I started high school as a brash and cocky athlete.…
