3. The Question of Meaning/Purpose refers to: “Why mankind exist?” and “why do I exist?” mankind seeks to answer. (Weider & Gutierrez 2011). Theists believe that the purpose of the mankind is to know God. (Weider & Gutierrez 2011). Traditional Judaism teaches that the man is to love the Lord and serve Him with “all your hearth and all your soul” (Deuteronomy 11:13), in Christianity the purpose of mankind according to (John 17:3) is “that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent ”It’s about having a personal intimate relationship with God through his son, Jesus Christ. In this paper I will evaluate two divergent views on the meaning of life. These views are a traditional American Indian saying that goes “Leave the earth as you found it” versus a modernistic American view that goes “make your mark on the world.” I will argue that although these views on the meaning of life offer two very different meanings on how one should live their life, they are both compatible with each other. Thus both meanings can be reconciled. Firstly, I’ll begin by examining the traditional American Indian argument on the meaning of life showing the strengths and weakness of this argument. Then, I will lay out the modernistic American argument also showing its strengths and weakness. By comparing the virtue and vices of both arguments I will show that one can show respect to earth and all living things by leaving the earth as they found it whilst leaving a legacy or a mark on society.…
Life is defined as a characteristic that distinguishes that have signaling and self sustaining processes from those that don’t. If an organism can perform certain functions such as movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth, reproduction, excretion, and nutrition, it is classified as a living organism. Life began from the basic building block of all living things, called cells. All organisms derived from single celled organisms. Cells are the basic building blocks of life and are found in all living things. For example, a group of cells would form a tissue, a group of tissues would form an organ, a group of organs would form an organ system an a group of organ systems would form an organism.…
Sensing that he is a distinct and separate existence from others through time and space, a man becomes aware of his existential self from infancy. As he matures he also becomes aware of his categorical self through the realization that he has characteristics or attributes that distinguishes him from other objects in his environment. These two aspects – the existential self and the categorical self – constitute the initial ways in which an individual begins the self-perception process that leads to his self-concept (Lewis and Brooks-Gunn, 1979).…
Part of the answer to the meaning of life is made up the systematic effort in clarifying what is virtually meant by what is life. Many psychologists will evaluate people’s meaning of life from a critical point, but in the search for its meaning, significance or importance are synonyms that could be used. The work of Victor Frank, “Man’s Search for Meaning’” plays a vital role in giving what is seen as a credible answer to the meaning of life.…
Many people develop many different philosophies of life as they continue to grow up. My philosophy of life is based on the Ten Commandments. I believe that everyone should try their best to follow the commandments that were given to us from God. It is not only important that one develops a philosophy of life, but it is more important that one applies their philosophy to their life. I apply my philosophy of life by trying my best to follow the commandments, and when I realize that I have done wrong, I repent and ask God for forgiveness. Jesus summarized this dual purpose of the Ten Commandments with these words: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.” I try my best to apply this philosophy to my life.…
It is to death that it is to life. It is the way of the life to find death in the end, that no life has no end, and that death must exist for life to exist. As an excerpt from my reflection of life quoted, “To find the meaning of life is a journey to an end; what one can attain is the construction of a personal meaning in the daily undertaking of living itself,” death is nothing but an undertaking itself, that no one, perhaps nothingness can only dwell into, an absence of any form of life.…
I have no single philosophy for life, but rather three philosophies. Each of which has different meaning. My three philosophies include the following: work hard, take pride in myself and the accomplishments that I make, and also everyone is on this planet for a reason. In the following paragraphs I will explain each of my three philosophies. From this, I hope that others will understand why I look at life the way that I do.…
