The Inheritor
The Inheritor

1.

2. In this story, I think the inheritor is the man. I think this because he was able to save the ewes life, in which it did nothing for him. But if you look at it another way, biblically, the man saved the ewe, which is sacred, and in return, god helped him survive by being spotted by the army helicopter.

3. In the beginning of the story, the mans initial thought was that he was going to look at the situation with a practical eye (pg155). Then when he saw the dingo watching the ewe, he felt relived because he must of felt that the dingo was not interested in attacking him. His dilemma consists of him feeling pity for the sheep. He did not want the sheep to die, but if that were to happen, he would have to risk himself. He thought that eventually the dingo will kill the ewe, but the flood would cause no other organisms to be there for the dingo to eat. Eventually he would be attacked.

4. The man was able to defeat the dingo because he knew that the dingo could not maintain the high ground forever. He stayed close to the ewe, but not too close as he would frighten it. So that he would not be surprised from an attack, he decided to go right in front of the dingo, eye to eye. He suddenly rose up his arms and shouted. He caught the dingo off guard, and the man was able to get on top of it. He choked it until it could breath anymore. He was superior to his opponent because he was able to use the element of surprise, and he was much more calm.

5.
a.) The significance of the allusion to the golden fleece is that the man wanted to keep the ewe as an symbol. First of all, in the Catholic religion, a sheep is considered sacred, so the author made it sound like it was made of gold. This is relevant because people like expensive things, as it is sacred to them. The sheep in this instant is the expensive thing to the man.
b.) The men in the helicopter reacted that way because they thought that the sheep had special value to the man, as they were the only two living creatures on the peak.
c.) I think the man only had two choices. Both would be good and bad. The way he went was good because he was able to save a sheep from a brutal murder. Yet he did this by killing a predator that was only doing something so it could live. If he would of done the opposite, and let the sheep die, the dingo would of most likely lived, if only the flood didn’t get to it.

6. (Didn’t really get it) a.) I can conclude from the mans decision about crime is that if you would be face to face with that situation with people, you would not have the choice of killing them. This would be considered murder. b.) The environmental problems faced in this would be the flooding that caused the whole situation. c.) The public complicity with war crimes and government wrongdoing would relate to this, because situations like the one in the story might be caused by these examples.

9. I think the man only had two choices. So really, the man could of done anything to save himself, but something would not of lived, or been okay because of it.

In “The Inheritor”, Frank Roberts develops the idea that humans can find compassion and hold on to their values and morals even in dire situations. This is clearly expressed through the man’s thoughts, the lesson that Frank Roberts is portraying and the symbolism he uses. Firstly, the importance and significance of compassion and moral responsibility are depicted through the man’s conflicting thoughts and emotions. In fact, as the man observes the interaction between the ewe and the dingo he “[begins] to feel pity for the sheep”. Even though he is fully aware that his previous plan of hoisting himself into the tree will save him, his compassion forces him to consider saving…

But when he was 77 years old Batman’s mind started to slip, often finding himself unaware of his surroundings. A few weeks after the onset of these symptoms, His wife, Catwoman, took him to an attorney’s office. During a meeting with Riddler the lawyer, Catwoman convinced Batman to re-do his will. Under his old will, all of Batman’s money was to go to local crime fighting organizations. Catwoman convinced Batman to change his will to give all his money and property to Catwoman. At first, Batman was reluctant to change his will, but Catwoman pressed & pressed. At one point, she threatened to leave him unless he changed his will. She also told Batman that he had promised to change his will to include her. Although Batman had no recollection of saying that, he figured that it was just his faulty memory and he believed what Catwoman told him. In fact Catwoman was lying & Batman had never made such promise. Nevertheless, Batman caved and changed his will to suit Catwoman’s wishes. 2 years later, Batman died of a heart attack brought on by too much stress when he was younger. Catwoman moved for the will to be admitted to probate. The organizations beneficiaries of Batman first will appeared in the court to argue that the second will should be invalidated because Catwoman exerted undue & unfair influence over Batman in the process of the re-doing of Batman’s will. Under Michigan law anytime a will is made by someone who is of weakened mind & a will is made to meet the wishes of another it is considered undue & unfair influence. What this means to our case is that due to Catwoman’s contued pressing Batman to change his will to fit her wishes…

Inheritance is given in many forms. This could be what is left in the parents will, but it can also be the character inheritance. Character inheritance is the things learned from the previous generation on how to behave or morals. The inheritance passed down is what shapes Sanders as a man in the short story “The Inheritance of Tools”. The tool used to convey this is the hammer. Sanders’ father had it before him and before him his grandfather used it. Though new handles for the hammer had been made; the generational inheritance is buried within it. Each owner used and passed it along, as will Sanders to his son. The hammer symbolizes the passing down of inheritance to each new generation. Sanders uses the emotions of his father’s death, the…

One of the most well known theories is the flood story that appears in the Bible. In this story, God was upset at mankind and wanted to rid the world of their evil through a massive worldwide flood. He enlisted Noah, a righteous man of God to assist to save animals and man from extinction by instructing him to build a big boat called an arc. The arc was designed to house two, a male and female of all animals and Noah's family so that when the flood waters would dissipate, these species could repopulate the earth. According to the story, it rained for 40 days and 40 nights and the earth remained flooded for 150 days. (Flood…
