The First Telephone: Alexander Graham Bell
The first telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell on March 10, 1876. The first words ever transmitted to another person through the telephone was “Mr. Watson, come here, I want you.”. This was the start of something huge in the future. The telephone’s cause can be described by the inventor and his reasons. The effects can be described by the outcome and todays uses of the telephone. Bell came to the U.S. as a teacher for the death, and considered the idea of electronic speech while visiting his mother, who was hearing-impaired, in Canada. One way is that writing allows the physical separation of the of the sender and the receiver. Before the telephone a sender would need to write a letter and send it through the mail. The telephone allows the sender and the receiver to be in direct contact without being physically there. The sender and the receiver can be separated by great distances but their communication is still direct and no interference is required through mail. Another example is that the telephone is an all-purpose tool. It is used in the home, business and in education. It can be used as a source of entertainment and a vital resource to the uneducated as well as the educated. It has changed the pace of business and made the world smaller and more accessible to all. The telephone has also provided security and helped in emergency situations. Some of the bad effects of the telephone can be explained in many ways too. One way is that real communication requires back and forth speaking and listening and then providing a response by what has been heard. One aspect that is lacking from communication through a telephone is a face to face interaction which allows the understanding of body language. Another example of how it can be bad is that when people send text messages, it can ruin our language and the way we write and read things. People get so used the way the abbreviate things in text to type faster, that when they get to the real world and have to write a formal paper or essay, they get caught using
