Teens under alcohol influence

Over the years alcohol has become the most common “illegal drug” being not so illegal after all because it’s so easy to get, according to most kids. Most myths about alcohol are not true, for example “Myth: Drugs are a bigger problem than alcohol.
Alcohol kills more young people than cocaine, heroin, and every other illegal drug combined. Eighteen million Americans are addicted to alcohol or have alcohol abuse issues. Alcohol is the No. 1 drug problem of today's youth.” (Source: www.madd.org) Alcohol isn’t only the number one drug problem in America’s youth, but most importantly it is the cause of most suicides amongst the youth, it leads to “an increased risk that a teen will commit or be a victim of a serious crime, such as assault, rape, or murder.” (Source: SafeYouth.org).

Some reasons why teens even try alcohol may go beyond simple curiosity, some teens have more of a tendency to become alcoholics, and these reasons may vary from being an alcoholic’s child to having emotional problems, such as depressions or anxiety disorders. Sometimes alcohol itself leads to depression, but most likely people that are depressed seek a solution in alcohol. Trauma, bad home environments and peer pressure are also very common reasons why teens taste and become addicted to alcohol.

Alcoholism in teens also leads to other worse things, “One national survey found that of the teens who reported drinking regularly (at least once a week) in the past month:49% had used marijuana in the last month, 21% used other illegal drugs (such as cocaine) in the last month, 50% had been in a physical fight in the past year,16% had carried a weapon to school in the past month, 9% had attempted suicide in the past year, and 27% had engaged in risky sex.”(Source: SafeYouth.org)
