Teen Pregnancy
Two minutes is a long time to wait, for a teenage girl. Waiting for a pregnancy is a growing epidemic in the United States. Teen girls are becoming pregnant at a huge rate with a lot of the pregnancies being planned. Enough is not being done to educate or prepare these teen about how their lives will change in the event of pregnancy. There are at least 5 television shows featuring teen pregnancies, or teen moms including ‘’16 and Pregnant’’ and ‘’Teen Mom’’, it’s basically giving teenagers the idea that it id alright to have sex before marriage and become pregnant. In a way, these shows condone teen pregnancy. Changing the channel cannot be done without seeing an advertisement from one of the teen shows or an above the influence add. The stars are also on People magazine, OK magazine, Seventeen and Teen Vogue which is highly glamorizing the subject. The covers say stuff like, ‘‘Amber lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks’’ or ‘’Macy’s new makeup or new man!’’ Most Teenagers don’t deal with makeovers or being on the cover of national magazines for losing weight and shouldn’t be encouraged and get a reward for becoming pregnant like being in a magazine cover or TV show based on their lives. It is so accepted in this nation that some high schools are now included with nurseries for the teens to drop off their children, while they finish class. It is a good and positive thing they will be able to finish school, on the other hand, it also means the school has too many teen pregnancies and that the school isn’t teaching effective sex education. Today’s generation have so many options, there shouldn’t be any teen pregnancies. From birth control, Planned Parenthood, teen pregnancy prevention programs to a new form of birth control called Plan B or The Morning After pill, so if any form of birth control was forgotten, there can be no chance of being pregnant.
