Ted Talk, “Teach teachers how to create magic” by Christopher Edmin starts off describing how “right now” there are all different types of teachers and powerful educators out there, ones that are boring one to death and ones that are sharing information with student at the edge of their seats. Edmin states that the master educators that know the skills about how to teach are far removed from classrooms. Also the teachers that want to become masters have no models. According to Edmin the masters have not learned their expertise from any college or university, but by “being in the same spaces of those who engage…like the black church” (Edmin). He says the skills our educators need to reflect a preachers “magic”. And it is fine if we keep teaching theories and facts but it is nothing with the absence of the “magic”. To improve our schools we need to instill the “magic” by requiring the educators to enter the black church, barber shop and the rap concerts.
Christopher Edmin, author of “Teach teachers how to create magic” presented himself with the magic of a black church preacher. For example he engages the audience by awakening them with an “amen” after a statement. I fully comprehend the message because my favorite teachers are the ones who instill fire or the “magic” in their lesson because those are the teachers that live a realistic life. Christopher Edmin has a very valid point that if communicated will improve education across our nation.

Washington valued an education of the whole individual: Head, hand, and heart. Although the traditional education consists of only enlightening the head, Booker discovered that the indoctrination of the whole body resulted in many more beneficial life skills for the crowd he was teaching, the African americans. Since the African Americans had just been liberated from slavery, most of them had no idea how to keep proper hygiene, take care of the few items they owned, not to mention how to read. Booker swept these African Americans under his wing, kindly coaching them on how to brush their teeth, take baths, build homes, reap crops from the earth, repair dilapidated items, read, and a plethora of other necessities. Along with inculcating the whole body, Booker extrapolated that captivating and charismatic mentors made all the difference. “there is no education which one can get from books, and costly apparatus that is equal to that which can be gotten from contact great men and women.” -Booker T.…

Thirty students reported for admission and all were above 15 years of age and had some previous education. The greater part of them had been public school teachers. Some were the former pupils of these teachers. Unfortunately, they came into the school with preconceived ideas about what they would learn. They could memorize long rules and information but couldn’t apply them to everyday life. They thought an education meant automatically earning more money. Fortunately, they were amenable to the lessons that Booker thought important.…

“The education of Black women has always been considered an important investment in the future” (Gregory 1995). Gregory (1995) is not the only author who believes this but in fact Coker (2003) and Collier-Thomas (1982) agree with her entirely. Black women are the backbone of the family as Collier-Thomas (1995) and Coker (2003) points and it only makes sense that they would want to get educated so that they can continue to influence black children is a distinct point that Collier-Thomas (1995) makes in her article. Gregory (1995) says, “Black teachers often became the only means to establish schools and educational associations in the community, and teach Black youth and adults.” Gregory (1995) further discusses the importance of Black women as educator in this chapter, not only academically but also socially and communally.…

Attention- getter: What would you do if somebody came into this classroom and pointed a gun at you as if they were going to kill you for no reason? First thing that would come to mind is, “Am I really going to die right now” and “Why is a person on campus with a gun trying to kill people?” Sad part is, an event like this has happened many times in the past. For instance, the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting as well as the Colorado movie theatre shooting that all took place within the past year[example]. These mass shootings have brought up the issue of controlling who is able to purchase guns and if it is safe and necessary to roam around in public armed with a weapon.…
