Technologies can be considered as structural constraints. Similar to all structures human beings have created, they can limit or enable human actions. Technology can be defined as the creation, adaptation, usage and comprehension of mostly machines which are known to make life better and assist in solving a problem (Wright, 2008). In addition to that, technology is also used to perform a specific function. The use of technology by human beings can be dated back when they began creating simple tools from natural resources. From using fire to prepare their food which led to the increase of food production to the use of the wheel which aided in moving from one place to another and environmental controlling, human beings are known to use technology to their advantage. Recent technology for instance the internet, the printing press and the mobile phone have made communication easier. It has enabled human beings to be able to communicate and interact freely within the global boundaries (Wright, 2008).…

At the beginning, I thought technology as a machine related tool that solves problems. I associate technology with machine since our culture use the term technology to mostly describe things that are related to machinery. For example, technologies have an impact on our social interaction such as the use of smart phones or social media. Although, I have not thought of a table or a chair as technologies, I was introduced to the term “artifacts” which are tools that do not have to be physical. An artifact is a tool that makes our lives easier, more efficient and enjoyable that arises from some development in science. Fire is the first form of technology. We are able to cook food, keep ourselves warm, and give us light during nighttime. Additionally, the creation of boat was designed to float and travel on water;…

First, Winston clearly defines technology as “the organization of knowledge, people, and things to accomplish specific practical goal”; second, he states that “technology consists of not only useful artifacts and the tools and processes to produce them but also the entire organization of people and materials that permits the acquisition of the knowledge and skills needed to design, manufacture, distribute, use, repair, and eventually dispose of these artifacts”; lastly, Winston’s definition of technological systems states “ the complex of techniques, knowledge, and resources that are employed by human beings in the creation of material and social artifacts that typically serve certain functions perceived as useful or desirable in relation to human interests in various social contexts”.…

Humanity or Mankind has evolved from the essence that separates humans from beasts: the ability to use the mind for reason. Reason is the ability to analyze, create, deduce, and formulate. It is reason that enables human beings to strive to invent; it is through invention that mankind has developed society and created a better world. we could say that technology is the sum total of instrumentally useful culturallytransmissible information. Technology, a word with Greek origins, is defined as, “the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area”. Technology is a word used to collectively describe or portray the advancements, abilities, creations, undertakings, views, and knowledge of a singular group of persons: we as humankind.…

The term technology is a combination of the Greek words techne and logos. The former refers to art or craft while the latter refers to word or speech. When the term first appeared in the English vocabulary in the 17th century, it referred only to a discussion of applied arts which gradually came to be the object of designation. By the 20th century, the term had embraced a growing range of means, processes and ideas in addition to tools and machines. According to Sen(1999), technology is, “the means or activity by which human beings seek to change or manipulate their environment.” Over a long period of time the history of technology inevitably highlights the moments of innovation that show this cumulative quality as some societies advance, stage by stage, from comparatively primitive to more sophisticated techniques. Technology refers both to the artefacts created by humans such as machines and the methods used to produce those artefacts. So democracy can be viewed as social technology.…

The word technology refers to the making, modification, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, crafts, systems, and methods of organization, in order to solve a problem, improve a preexisting solution to a problem, achieve a goal, handle an applied input/output relation or perform a specific function. It can also refer to the collection of such tools, including machinery, modifications, arrangements and procedures. Technologies significantly affect human as well as other animal species' ability to control and adapt to their natural environments. The term can either be applied generally or to specific areas: examples include construction technology, medical technology, and information technology. The prehistorical discovery of the ability to control fire increased the available sources of food and the invention of the wheel helped humans in travelling in and controlling their environment. Recent technological developments, including the printing press, the telephone, and the Internet, have lessened physical barriers to communication and allowed humans to interact freely on a global scale. In many societies, technology has helped develop more advanced economies (including today's global economy) and has allowed the rise of a leisure class. Many technological processes produce unwanted by-products, known as pollution, and deplete natural resources, to the detriment of the Planet Earth and its environment. The distinction between science, engineering and technology is not always clear. Science is the reasoned investigation or study of phenomena, aimed at discovering enduring principles among elements of the phenomenal world by employing formal techniques such as the scientific method. Technologies are not usually exclusively products of science, because they have to satisfy requirements such as utility, usability and safety. The 20th century brought a host of innovations. In physics, the discovery of nuclear fission has led to both nuclear weapons and…
