I always understood the importance of communication in the work place. I have been working in the security field for over 2 years. In those 2 years I have been trained to communicate well by writing reports as incidents occur. I am a firm believer that good communication is one of the most important parts in team dynamics. It is what employers are looking for in their future employees. It is what sport teams are looking for in their athletes. It is what teachers are looking for in their students. By having good communication in the team it will help reach the common goals set by the team while enhancing team skills.
In teams it takes more than placing students in a group and assigning them a task to get the team to engage in effective collaborative learning behavior (Soller 1999). The teams in todays society are so diverse and different from one another that it turns into a challenge to get the team to work effectively. When working with a team across the nation it can be difficult due to different time zones and cultures. It takes time to get comfortable with one another to be able to discuss the goals and have everyone put there input without feeling like they were being judged. A way to get through this is by asking questions says soller (1999) “Students learning effectively in groups encourage each other to ask questions, explain and justify their opinions, articulate their reasoning, and elaborate and reflect upon their knowledge. But she says these benefits will only be achieved by active and well functioning teams.
In a study by Sweden where they were researching team communication during air combat shows that “The key to success in air combat lies to a great extent in achieving successful team cooperation, and efficient team communication may be considered one of its prerequisites (Orasanu and Salas 1993, Adelman et al. 1998, Entin and Serfaty 1999).
