Communication, within a teammate environment, is the most important aspect of all. Within communication you can learn a lot about what your teammates have to offer to the group. You can also even learn a bit about what you have to offer the group and how it will tie in with everything else. It is important to listen, ask questions, and take notes to reflect on later. The key factor in team communication is to speak up, get conversation flowing, and express your creative ideas.
There are many challenges and benefits that come along with team playing. Have you ever heard of the saying, “It is amazing how much you can accomplish when it doesn't matter who gets the credit?” [2007] This statement can be very true but can also be very wrong. Some of the challenges you might face in a teammate environment would be the lack off communication between teammates, the chaotic communication that can arise if a few of you are competing to “be at the top” of all the decision making, and even when some might fall behind and slack on their part of the work.
The first steps teammates must take, in a team oriented project, might involve the least communication, but perhaps, the most important communication. These steps are; meeting plans, goal setting and role playing. This initial planning is important for the organization of everything. Conflicts may arise during this process due to everyone voicing their own opinions, and some people are team players and some are not. It then becomes the obligation of the team players to coax the non-team players into contributing as much as they are. Some of the team may even come to resent this. This is where communication takes place. By listening to each other, and truly giving each person a chance to speak, will allow for those who might even be shy to feel like they are being heard.
