It is clear that students which collaborate as a team during a learning experience are not only going to learn about different perspectives and mindsets, but also will learn how to sharpen their skills in areas such as; collaboration, commitment and conflict management, among others. This paper is a requirement for the course Management 521 of the University of Phoenix for week III. For University of Phoenix, effective collaboration is one of its fundamental learning goals. For this reason, it makes mandatory for its students to collaborate in learning teams groups across the curriculum in all academic programs. Here, the concept Learning Team will be define, and it would be explain how, considering those individual differences from team members, the Team Charter will be used as a tool to improve performance.
Student Team Learning is a cooperative learning structure and, as such, is an instructional rather than a disciplinary strategy. Its use, however, appears to have a positive effect upon the incidence of classroom misbehavior (Cotton, 2001). Its purpose is to help the student achieve greater professional competence as member and leader of work teams (University of Phoenix, 2009). All learning team’s members come from different backgrounds and skills. Because of this, there can be room for a conflict management opportunity.
In an event of a conflict, the first step would be utilizing the Team Charter. The Team Charter is a tool provided by the University, considered as the road map in order to have a successful learning team experience. This tool specifically indicates the purpose of the team, identifies strengths of all team members, list potential conflicts that may appear, and outlines how those conflicts are to be handled.
