Surviving the Applewhites
In the book “Surviving the Applewhites” one of the main characters are Jake, a juvenile delinquent whose been kicked out of every school in Rhode Island. Another main character in this book is E.D, a 13 year old member of the Applewhites family who is completely different from the rest of the family. The setting of the story started off in Rhode Island, which is Jake’s hometown, but Jake was forced to move with his grandfather in North Carolina to be homeschooled in the only place that will educate him, the Creative Academy run by the chaotic Applewhites. The main complication of this novel is that Jake and E.D are unlike the rest of the family, they both do not have a passion for art, dance, or theater. But E.D’s director father takes on the role for directing his new movie “The Sound of Music”, everyone in the Applewhites house is forced to be part of the new movie. At first, E.D is suspicious about her family taking Jake in since he was known for burning down his old school in Rhode Island. But, getting to know him she learned to deal with the fact that a delinquent will be living under the same roof as her. She is very different from Jake. He is a scary juvenile delinquent and E.D is a shy down to earth teenager, but little does she know they both share one thing in common aside from the rest of the family, they both do not have a passion for art, dance, or theater. Since E.D is a shy girl she does not express that she doesn’t like art or theater because she doesn’t want to disappoint her father who is a movie director.
