1. What has been Sun's impact on the Internet? Positive or negative?
Sun Microsystems has impacted the Internet in numerous ways. Their innovative Java applets have given users an amazing way to interact with the Internet and have allowed communication of many different devices across many different networks. Such a tool as that can only be a benefit to something like the Internet which at is core is just devices communicating across a network. Creating and implementing machines that are capable of extreme reliability is also a very helpful to anyone involved in using the Internet. Overall Sun Microsystems has been a very positive influence on the world of the Internet.
2. Will Sun continue to set the standards for Internet connectivity?
I think that Sun will definitely be the company to look to when Internet connectivity standards are set. Many of their products have been far and away superior to the products of other businesses. Sun’s ideas on “the way the Internet should be” show that they are ready and willing to revolutionize the way the Internet functions and the way the people connect to it.
3. How might Net appliances help or hurt Sun?
Sun is in a unique position to take advantage of the already established net appliances market. Their vision of making net devises into computer substitutes is already under way with the use of wi-fi and Bluetooth enabled smart phones. Net appliances let people connect to the Internet and each other with an ease that seemed impossible a few years ago and much of this connectivity is brought to you by the products of Sun Microsystems. Sun is using Network appliances to literally push their motto: The Network is the Computer.
