The life of a young girl: the diary of Anne Frank is a personal account of the struggle of a 15 year-old Jewish girl living during the Holocaust. The Holocaust was the systematic, state-directed, genocide of six million Jews. As well as the murder of five million other civilians, including Slavs, Gypsies and others, during World War II.At that time Hitler had taken over Germany and persuaded the people that the reason for Germany's economy problems was the larger population of Jews & Gypsies. Hitler's pride and prejudice towards the Jews and Gypsies soon had every German in Germany against anyone who was not as they said "pure German". He claimed to be allied to a "Master Race" also known as Aryans. Hitler then created stronger armies to take over Germany. He stirred up nationalism in the people, which was the main cause of World War II.
Anne and her older sister Margot were born in Germany, but because of the growing persecution and fear the Germans placed on Jews, Otto Frank, and Anne's father relocated his family to Holland. Even there they were not safe from the German government who wanted every Jew and Gypsy in Germany executed. In 1935 the German government passed a law that stated all rights and privileges that we today take for granted were taken away. Anne frequently reminisces when she was permitted to ride her bicycle down the streets of Holland. Shopping for food and necessities had been limited to only 5 hrs; also they could not be out after 8pm.The Jews could not attend any type of entertainment, not even movies! They were not permitted to gather for dinners or parties together. Anne often talked about the law prohibiting Jews from marring non-Jews, so that the Aryan race would remain "pure". Later on Hitler and the Nazi's created death and labor camps.
