Meaning of Success
If you ask any number of people what the meaning of success is, you would get very different definitions of what it means to them. The literal definition of success according to Webster’s dictionary is: a degree or measure of succeeding, a favorable or desired outcome. Success can be found in school, jobs, family, and in simple everyday living.
Being a success in school could be so many different things. For one person it might mean making straight A’s on everything and anything less would be considered a failure. For someone else, who may struggle with his or her classes, just passing his or her courses would be considered a success in their opinion.
Another example could be found in a person’s job. A person does not have to be a CEO of a Fortune 500 company to be a success. Many people confuse success with having wealth and or power. Success has nothing to do with money or how powerful a person is. A person can be a success and be a stay-at-home mom or dad. A person struggling to find a job might be considered a success when he or she finds a job.
Success does not have to be something as monumental as when man discovered fire. Success is subjective; success could be something such as cooking your family a meal and not burning any of the food. For a chef this might not be considered a success, but for someone who may not be able to cook, this would be considered a success. For most people, having your family sit down and eat a meal together would be considered a success. Some people may consider not having kids a success; they may not want children, so by not having any they are being successful in what they want.
Success can be found everyday in just about anything big or small. A person with some physical disability might think just getting out of bed in the morning as a success. A person with a fatal disease might consider living another day to be a success. Or a recovering addict would consider being able to cope...
