Music has and will always be around for many more years to come. Popular music and its artist have many influences on the youth’s generation. In this paper I will talk about how the “Popular Music” has a lot of impact and how it affects people’s emotions, thoughts, and actions.
Throughout the years many music and artists have been criticized for corrupting juveniles mentality. Hip Hop also known as rap is being blamed for most crimes and murders in the cities all over America. When most people think of rap music today, they portray images such as it being ganged related or thuggish this revealed through a change in language or slang, as well as a change in appearances or dress. Many parents and media criticize rap music for influencing teens negatively, but actually give a lot of teens an outlet for their own life problems.
Rappers are constantly blamed for crimes going on in today’s society. Parents blame musicians like Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and N.W.A (Niggaz with Attitude) for their child’s actions and or problems. The Hip Hop group N.W.A wrote a song titled
“ Fuck The Police” in the lyrics it says,
“Fuckin with me cuz I’m a teenager
With a little bit of gold and a paper
Searchin my car, lookin for the product
Thinkin every nigga is sellin narcotics
You’d rather see me in the pen”
With the lyrics of this song I don’t believe that certain kinds of individuals can commit a crime from listening to this song. All an artist does is express his or her own life experiences where some of the young generation relates to theirs. The statements said in the song or any song for that matter doesn’t mean an individual will follow what the song is stating. Rap lyrics do not influence bad behavior but reflect it.
