The University of Phoenix is one of the country’s leaders in the nontraditional education area. Nontraditional is a reference to the online university which has accreditations from noteworthy associations and, as a result, was highly recommended. The decision to attend the University of Phoenix was a no-brainer decision because I needed the adult learning environment along with the flexibility of the online campus and community.
By nature, a graduate-level program inherently will require that all its students adhere to certain organizational values and ethical standards. However, if the student considers the fact that the University of Phoenix is an online program and has a virtual environment, then there needs to be another layer of restrictions to ensure moral behavior and maintain conformity to the code of conduct. The higher-level principles that govern or guide the University of Phoenix student in the quest for knowledge are outlined in three main areas. These areas are the University of Phoenix Mission Statement, the Student Code of Conduct, which includes the Student Code of Academic Integrity and the Students Program Handbook. The first two of these guidelines have to do with the fact that the university’s mission is the pursuit of intellectual growth and to achieve this, the student must avoid violations of academic integrity. These violations are carefully outlined and defined in the Code of Academic Integrity. On a more day to day level, there is the University of Phoenix Policy statement which governs things like attendance, participation, grading and Code of Conduct.
The third area, the program handbook, is the focus of this paper and is for the College of Information Systems and Technology.
